Recently, I've become very interested in Cold War submarine warfare (especially now that I've started reading Red Storm Rising). So, later I was looking for some submarine sims (there aren't too many of them, unfortunately...), and came up on this: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=893

I had heard about this game already years ago, but I never were too interested in it. Until now. And now I regret that I didn't "pick it up" earlier, because this game absolutely kicks ass. I don't remember the last time when I've been as enthusiastic about some game as I am now.

It's pretty much everything I'd want from a good sub sim. It's very easy to get into, yet complex and highly addictive. Of course it's just my opinion, but still...:D

You should try it too ;7, especially if you're interested in the subject.

Holy...I used have this game, back on 5.6" floppies, but I lost one and couldn't install it anymore even though I dug up a drive for the disks.

Thank you, very, very much.

The book was great. It's definatly worth reading.

I also liked "The Bear and the Dragon".

Yes read the book. The game is awesome though. I remember once spending a very tense two hours trying to sink a Kremlin with a Permit class.

Red Storm Rising is awesome. Now Clancy has dived into absolute **** with his shadowwriters, ZOMG TERRISM -plots and horrible, horrible dramatic plots.

[q]   Both rose to their feet. Pam nearly slipped, but Kelly caught her, dropping to his knees to help remove her shorts. Then it was her turn to unbutton his shirt after placing his hands on her breasts. His shirt remained in place for a long moment because neither wanted his hands to move, but then it was done, one arm at a time, and his jeans went next. Kelly slipped out of his shoes as the rest came off. Both stood for the next embrace, weaving as the boat pitched and rocked beneath them, the rain and wind pelting them. Pam took his hand and led him just aft of the driver's console, guiding him down to a supine position on the deck. She mounted him at once. Kelly tried to sit up, but she didn't let him, instead leaning forward while her hips moved with gentle violence. Kelly was as unready for that as he'd been for everything else this afternoon, and his shout seemed to outscream the thunder. When his eyes opened, her face was inches from him, and the smile was like that on a stone angel in a church.
   'I'm sorry, Pam, I -'
She stopped his apology with a giggle. 'Are you always this good?'[/q]

My eyes are bleeding...

On topic:
There's a decent sub game that actually has a counterpart game called Destroyer Command, I THINK it's something called Submarine Command, but not sure, basically, folks who own Destroyer Command can play multiplayer and hunt those who own the sub game.

Clever concept, think it's an SSI game, will check when I get home.

Hahahahaha, the painful memories. I didn't remember it was that bad, but apparently it is.

I head Dangerous Waters is good, but extremely difficult/has a steep learning curve.

Apparently, Silent Hunter 3 is brilliant.

I remember playing a sub game ages and ages ago.... I can't remember if it was on Pc or not (may have been that Red Storm Game, even), all I remember was that you could kill yourself by diving too deep.

I'd really like to get my hands on Jane's 688(i) Hunter/Killer, which was released back in 1997. Anybody here know that one? One of those games which you don't seem to find anywhere these days. :(

On the other hand, today I bought an original copy of Hind (1996), with the original box and manuals - all for measy little 5€.:D

If you like books about submarines check out books by Patrick Robinson. He writes books like Nimitz Class and Kilo Class. His latest book "Hunter Killer" is absolutely awesome. He mostly writes about submarine and Navy Seal operations with a bit of political intrigue. Lot's of cool stuff and I actually find his books a lot more entertaining than Tom Clancey's.  Read Nimitz Class and you'll be hooked, a very good read.

About SubSims- defiitely give Silent Hunter 3 a try. It's got the random mission generator. Meaning every time you go out on a mission you'll see different ships. It is by far the best submarine simulation out there, and very satisfying to sink ships. The first tanker I ever sank I first trailed for about 20 minutes, passed it dead silent, got into perfect firing position, and nailed him...great! Don't think there are any kind of politics in it, but pure submarine warfare...

Red Storm Rising is the best sub game of all time i dont care what you say! I played that game till my floppy drive gave out on my 386.

I Also had F19 Stealth Fighter, F15 Strike Eagle II, and a couple other cool 80's games that would consume me for hours.

I agree entirely; the new ones that I have read are horrible. A trend which I believe started with Rainbow Six (I quite disliked that book myself).

The only Clancy book I recall reading was Red Storm Rising. I don't know what's happened to my copy of the book, though. It seems to have vanished from the bookshelf.

I'm a Dale Brown fan now. His books seem to be descending into the realm of ridiculous supertech these days, but 'Air Battle Force' and 'Plan of Attack' were both incredibly cool even so.
