The bright kind?

EDIT: in seriousness...it was artificially induced, so it probably doesn't go along well with normal classifications.

What kind of Supernova was Capella?
An artificial one :p

I'd say it has more in common with a Type II but to be honest I'd call it a type III and be done with it :D

...
It's a hollywood supernova, it's a nova that goes bang with a lot of fire and light, and burns up the whole solar system in a few seconds, which means it goes multiple times faster than light, too. What the hell, you think they actually thought about stuff like supernova kinds? :p

Venico summed it up nicely.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Type Ib or Ic The exerior would have been stripped by the satani.

Type Ia is fromed when matter collects around a neutron star

Type II is formed from stars geater than ~10 times the mass of our sun.

Capella is 2.5 times the mass of our sun.

Good point. We do see Capella appear to get larger before it blows so it could be something related to a Ib.

BTW though Type 1a involves a white dwarf not a neutron star.

Actually, IIRC, for a type 2 its less dependant on the mass of the star, but on the strength of the internal pressure from the core, in the form of thermonuclear radiant energy causing expansion.  If the Shivans' subspace weapon could disrupt all thermonuclear activety in the Cappelean sun at the same time, this expansive force would cease, causing the gravity of the star to collapse it in towards itself.  While thermonuclear activitey would cease, the synthesis of nutronium from electrons and protons that occurs when the core exceeds 1.2 solar masses might still occur, resulting in the massive energy release in the form of a supernova.

But from the cutscene we can clearly see that the stars energy output does not dim, infact the star grows brighter. This leads to my assumption of Ib or Ic, faster burning could result in the stripping of the star's outer layers.

I thought that was some sort of visual distortion from the subspace field (or whatever the Shivans did; given the visual similarity between the new tinge of the star and the 'void' between Sathani arms).

Like, say, the effect of a heat haze.

What would be the point in that all the witnesses are going to be killed anyway and the sathani are so powerful they don't need any kind of stealth.

I personally reckon that the Shivans caused the collapse by creating a subspace field that filtered out photons leaving the core. Without that photon pressure the star would collapse inwards very quickly.
