Problem with Sol: A History
Hey guys.

I recently purchased Freespace 2 (I had lost my original copy years ago) and I decided to download some user-made campaigns for some excitement.

Sol: A History piqued my interest and I downloaded it. I read the ReadMe and found out I needed the Inferno Core and EA VPs.

Every time I try to start up FS2 I get this error:
Error:
Could not load in MainScreen-M!
File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\MenuUI\MainHallMenu.cpp
Line: 828

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

This only appeared after I installed the S:AH components.

What I've downloaded and installed: Sol_A_History.zip, inf_core.exe, inf_ea.exe.

Sorry if this has been brought before. I searched the forum, but couldn't find anything relevant.

Thanks for the help.

Where have you installed everything?

Are you using FS2_Open?

The archives have installed everything to C:\Games\FreeSpace2 and I'm guessing to the appropiate subfolders.

I'm running v1.20 of FS2: GOTY edition.

I also get an Unexpected end of archive when the inf_core.exe finishes extracting.

That's almost certainly your problem then. Sounds like the file is corrupt and needs to be downloaded again.

If you have VPView installed you could try opening the big inferno VP file (whatever it's called) to double check but if the extraction failed then that's probably your culprit.

BTW :welcome:

Are you sure? The main hall error showed up before I installed the Inferno and EA components.

Oh, well. I download it again anyway.

And if that doesn't work, I'll just uninstall and reinstall. Should there be any particular order I install the mods?

Thanks for the welcome.

If it showed up after you installed Sol A History but before you installed Inferno that's exactly what I'd expect.

The order shouldn't matter too much as if I remember correctly SAH is just a bunch of missions and won't interfere with the installation process.

That's a shame red, Sol is definitely one of the best user made campaigns I've played thus far. Not to mention it's made from the so-called "Campaign King," Blaise Russell. On a final note, the last mission is truly awesome. :D

I guess I should have updated my post. I did indeed finally get it working. Very comprehensive history of the SOL system indeed.;)

I could never view the last stage of the first mission's command briefing.  It didn't matter though, I just looked at it in FRED and then skipped the command briefing in the first mission.
