The (Lack of) Practice Effect
David Brin wrote a story about a man transported into a world in which the laws of nature were oddly skewed. In essence, the more something was used for a given purpose, the better it became for that purpose. Peasants would walk around all day wearing the finest clothing, in order that it might become finer. It was called "The Practice Effect"

I'm suffering quite the opposite. I've gone so long without even looking at Lightwave, that I can't model anything. I'm quite at a loss. Help me HLP-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope! Inspire me to model something.:nervous:

open one of your old models and start greebleing it, it'll take you about a week to remember how to turn the peddls with your feet, but it'll come back.

that's what I do, when I need to get back into the game.

Hm.  What if you optimized existing models for a while?  That should tide you over until you started getting ideas.  TVWP is in a situation right now where we need somebody to do just that. ;)

You know, Bob, that's what I started tooing tonight: poking at old models. It was just ugly. I was giving some serious thought to pulling out some of my old Truespace models and revamping them from scratch in Lightwave.

Goob, PM me. Let me know what you need.

welcome back, mik, how long are going to stay this time?
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.

How about doing some more models for the 158th?

Mik! Model an "uberized" (but not necessicarily large) Shivan Comm Node for the FSU. :D That way ugly won't matter - it's Shivan! :p

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I'm always here. I just don't speak much, Lib, and I don't even look at the politics and religion and evolution discussions. I just kind of lurk.

Spicious, my problem is I can't model anything new right now. If I do make anything new, the 158th pretty much always gets first refusal anyway.

I'm not terribly interested in doing highpoly versions of existing vessels. The Comm Node is an interesting idea, but considering [V] just threw together some rotating shapes in the first place, what would be the point?

Damn. I'd forgotten about that CENSORED. I can't even bear to look at some of the other stuff at the beginning of that thread. The thing at the end though, I'm afraid might be gone. Lots of my Freespace stuff was lost in that last drive implosion. :(

Yeah, I just went through all my dvd backups. Every last one of them is from a year BEFORE those models, or from about three months AFTER those models.

You could always model some Hi-Poly FS2 stuff. Like a Hatshepsut, pretty much all the Vasudan fighters, the Shivan ships, those all need to be hi-polied.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Yeah. I've got half finished hipoly versions of FS2 stuff all over the place (remember the Herc? I've also got a Medusa that I never finished. And, I think a... um... I don't remember what that other one is called. Its an interceptor thing I think. Perseus or some such?). I don't really like doing hipoly versions of the canon stuff. Everyone complains that I'm not following the textures, blah blah blah. It was okay with the Mjolnir, since it was obviously a complete throwaway model in the first place.
