I really like DVDs.
So my brother bought a new laptop today (bringing the total for notebooks in our house to 4... one for each person plus my brother's work laptop!), and it came with a DVD burner.

I was looking for things to test the burner... so I burned all three of the FS2 discs and my archived mods from the last few years onto one disc. Works like a dream. The days of CD switching are over! :D

Oh, and here's a shot of the three newer laptops... all connected via the wireless network. I'm really impressed by the ease with which you can set up a secure (WPA-PSK) network with file sharing these days.

Lucky. i tried to set up a file sharing network, and winXP complained that it didn't like the router set up we were using, and that I shouldn't link to non XP OSes... :wtf:

Ah well. Nice on the FS2 DVD

I did have some initial troubles getting the fourth (Win2k) laptop to successfully fileshare with the other three... but apart from that, no difficulties. What router do you use? Is it a common brand?

DVDs rock! But the first generation will become obselete soon. I can't access my desktop from my laptop, but I can do it vice versa.

Linksys. There's really no security issues with file sharing thrugh it, but windows was being a PITA, and I didn't feellike delaing with it at the moment. Nothing I needed to transfer anyways... Just thought it'd be a good idea.

Very nice. I should probably look into getting a DVD burner myself, they've really become affordable nowadays. And they make way better  ninja stars than 3 1/2" floppies.

cool beans, now sell em! ;)

Nah, I have a better idea. I'll just give them away for free. It's a bit more in line with the EULA, anyway. ;)

Surely with such a concentration of technology in one spot something like this will occur:

I got a Linksys too that's causing the trouble, but it just whines that it can't detect a network path.

Wireless pah!

My A7N8X-E boards gigabit lan card is just crying out for some new Cat6 cabling and a replacement card for my second PC. :) I'll go wireless when I see a system that could keep up with that :)

I'm afraid that that exact situation might arise any second now, redsniper. :D

Okay kara, I'll bow to that. ;) To be honest, when I'm moving big files between the computers, I do miss the 100Mbps of some simple crossover cable. However, I'm mostly just using my 1.5Mbps ADSL or transferring some small files in between computers, and that doesn't hardly stresses out the 54Mbps bandwidth afforded by the 802.11g cards. Plus, just being able to take these three laptops and walk around with them anywhere in the house and have them all on the internet... has undeniable cool factor. :D

I agree with that. Its just that lots of people act like wireless is the be all and end all of home networking when for a pretty similar price you could set up a wired network that is 20 times faster.

It's a case of buying what suits you best. For someone with Laptops wireless is good but I've got 3 desktops in my house and my PCs are pretty close to each other and the router so for me gigabit LAN seems like a much smarter option :)

But do you have FS. Silent threat, FS2 and the SCP on one DVD with an easy to use autorun with all patches and media vps also on the disc?

....didn't think so

Add a "Deluxe' to the mobo, and I'll say that's the most popular one on this board. :)

Due to an odd state of affairs I also own the deluxe model. It's in my second PC at the moment :) The -E is better than the deluxe though. No Gb LAN on the deluxe model (If there was I'd only need the cable! :)  )

My A7N8X-E Deluxe committed suicide. :(
