Bluetooth, is it worth it?
My dad is thinking of getting a bluetooth phone. We have nothing bluetooth enabled, so does it really make any sense to get one?

[color=66ff00]Not if he's only getting the phone for bluetooth (although it seems a large proportion of the new phones released have it by default).

I use the bluetooth feature on my phone (nokia 6820) to drop files onto it which is handy, as is the ability to download photos and backup the phonebook etc.

Also note that all bluetooth phones do not have the same features.

Yeah, I didn't think so. I might have a use for one though. I can always upgrade my computer to bluetooth enabled in the future.

I have bluetooth on my PDA and have had it turned off since the day I bought it. If you haven't got anything Bluetooth enabled, its pointless.

Me, I'd only use it for a bluetooth keyboard. I've got wifi for file transfers.

using bt between my palm and my phone back when I had a phone with bt was pretty seksi. much nicer to surf around with the palm... and managing phone numbers and stuff like that was really easy as well.

if only that phone hadn't gone dead on me :(

I take that first bit back. I've discovered the bluetooth GPS puck. I can keep the puck on, in my backpack, with its own batteries, and just connect to it with my PDA without pulling the puck out. So the bluetooth has value! :D

Yeah, BT only has value when you have more than one device with BT, and when you want two or more of said BT devices to be able to communicate in some way.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
