And this, kids, is why we load up with MX-50's and Fury's when escorting convoys in FS1.

Heat-seekers track whatever's in the reticle when you have nothing targetted.

not true i could not target or lanch the MX-50s at the first shivan ships seen ingame. i had to use furys and visuals to hent them down (although i had only onewhen it was half way through the subspace portal thingy lol)

except for that i always carry rockeyes or tempests on all missions

@an0n

While we are discussing targeting methods, has it ever been considered to include a weapon type that isn't fire-and-forget?  For example, a modern missile like the Sparrow uses radar tracking, but it requires the launching fighter to maintain that target lock right up until the missile hits its target.  I think the TVWP could benefit from some more primitive weapons such as this.  Or, one could combine this with existing fire-and-forget weapons, but maintaining the target lock after launch increases the odds of a hit.

What about a Battlezone 1-style tag missile system? once you hit a target with a fast dumbfire tagmissile, a series of 'real' missiles automatically launches from your fighter and homes in on the tagged target.

If a thread is more than a month old, a good rule of thumb is to just let it stay buried unless you have a REALLY good reason to bump it.

But a 3 year bump? Man...... :wtf:
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside
