I can see it now........

Captain: Gunnery control, power up photon beam cannons. Commence plasma core insertion.

XO: Uh sir, because of a beuroucratic snafu we can't use our beam cannons.

Captain: Then what the hell are we supposed to use, harsh language?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I love this paragraph...

And they don't involve chemicals or projectiles that can be inaccurate, accidentally cause injury or violate international treaties.

...i totally agree with that, i mean, when i go out hunting, i have to be careful no to miss, or accidently injure myself or others...and then there's the everpresent danger of Violating an International Treaty, that's a real doozy right there i'll tell you what...

Basically, it fires a bolt of lightning. It can be tuned to blow up explosives, possibly to stop vehicles and certainly to buzz people. The strike can be made to feel as gentle as "broom bristles" or cranked up to deliver a paralyzing jolt that "takes a few minutes to wear off."

At present, StunStrike is a 20-foot tower that can zap things up to 28 feet away. The next step is to shrink it so it could be wielded by troops and used in civilian locales like airplane cabins or building entrances.

Nikolai Tesla could be a rich man - if he was still alive. *doesn't know if he is or not*
SERIOUSLY...! | {The Sandvich Bar} - Rhino-FS2 Tutorial | CapShip Turret Upgrade | The Complete FS2 Ship List | System Background Package

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Uhmm...  He died back in '43.  I would think that a man who brought mass electricity to the world at the turn of the 20th century would certainly be deceased by now...  And I'm not so sure he'd be rich either, considering his actions caused him to die flat broke, and with a substantially large debt to the US and Britan.

No beam weapons? Oh that's terrible! The US will be forced to make do with it's mere 10:1 technological superiority. What's next, no space missles either? Poor dears.

I guess it's time to upgrade.  We've had black powder weapons for how long 400-500 years?

I hope energy shielding comes next.

BREEEHHHHHHH! Wrong. We don't use black powder anymore. It's less powerful than the junk we use now and it smokes too damn much.
