I didn't know that was possible.  I usually either A, take it out myself, with extreme care, or B, let the Sylla take it out once it goes hostile.

Anyone have any tips for Castle Assault? The base and battlewagon are usually destroyed easily enough, but my wingmen seem to have trained at the sitting duck school of flying, and are all dead by the time the battlewagon jumps in, leaving usually all the enemy fighters, who have the morpheus for a snack. help?

I find one of the most effective way to use fighters in fighter battles, is by getting them all to attack each target one at a time.  I even managed to save the Venzen using this tactic.

However, I should point out I was doing the campaign on easy. I don't have a joystick, and I find using a mouse for dogfighting adds a degree of difficulty.

Stay behind the Hermes, so you're close to the Battlewagon when it jumps in. Then fry the main beam with your missiles and start hunting fighters.

Don't order your wingmen to attack anything, just let them protect the Hermes and the Morpheus, and you should be fine.

Nope, just can't do it. Now the base keeps killing the Morhpheus (base on +-22 health when the morpheus dies), but only if i take out the battlewagon's beam weapon. (9 times in a row so far). If i attack the base or use wingmen to do it, the wagon and base both die but the morpheus still dies as well..
I guess the debriefing hints must be right - I'm simply rubbish :D. Any other hints, or am i a lost cause? :sigh:

what I did was have all fighters disarm the base, and by myself, hang out behind the task force until the battle wagon appears, then I just destroyed the main beam cannon then I would fly up and start killing everything, I think also maybe I changed all fighters to destroy base then, can't really remember.

I can't finish this mission as well. One thing is for sure, the RW missions are not easy...

This one is particularly hard, because my wingmen SUCK and there are way too many tasks to accomplish.

Destroy the base - check
Destroy the Archon - ckeck
Protect the EA vessels - argh! grmbl!

I flew this mission about 30 times now (no bull on that!) and I just can't get through. I tried about everything, from using brute force (all ships attack one target at a time) to micro-managemant (assign a target to each single ship). I tried protecting the Hermes and Morpheus with one wing, with two wings, with all wings - without success. My wingmen must have had a beer too much, because they really couldn't hit a truck even if they stood right in front of its broadside! Adjusting the ship selection didn't help either.

Sooner or later the Morpheus gets blown to pieces, no matter what I do.

Overall, the RW missions are way beyond the usual gamer's abilities. As I said, I like the storyline and hey, B5-lovers don't have a choice anyway, but a mission that I have to repeat more than five times isn't fun anymore.

For the next campaigns please keep in mind that not everybody is born the top-notch dogfighting hero and that not everybody wants to spend hours and hours just to become one. It is frustrating. Since I play games to have fun and not to get angry at the world, I guess I'll quit playing TBP at this point :sigh:

No idea why you're having so much trouble with the mission. I don't think I had to play any mission more than 4-5 times and that includes the puzzle missions where straight blasting isn't enough.

What skill level are you playing on?

Actually, I'm playing at "very easy". At the moment I'm trying to figure out where the mission files are hidden so as to remove one or two wings of enemy fighters with FrEd...

The mission files are in the Raider Wars VP file. You can open that with VPView (Check my FAQ for details if you need them).

As a matter of fact though I've just posted a slightly fixed version of the mission in the beta test forum so you won't need VPView for this particular mission :)

If I were you I wouldn't take out any wings as you can easily break a mission that way. Either give yourself something nicer to fly or lower the damage of the weapons the enemy has.

  • War,war never changes...
Ragesh3 you could try first to destroy the station with a mass attack - fly the Badger, then quickly destroy the archaeons cannon and then eliminate the enemy fighters - frazis and sky serpents first ( you will have a nice firepower and you are more manouverable so it is not a problem) If you take out 6-8 quickly the rest should be a bit easier....

I would recommend to switch the Badgers cannons places ( 4x40mm for antistarfighter combat).

Of course you have to also destroy archaon as it makes it's suicide run....

I needed 5-6 times to get past that mission on easy...:D

1-station
2-archaeons beam cannon
3- frazis/sky serpents...

@Ragesh3 : I edited the mission to not launch Silver Wing if you're playing on very easy. I'd appreciate you giving it a try and telling me if it works.

You can find it here.

Yes everyone please assist Karajorma with testing these new fixed missions. This is quite important.

I think I've managed to get FS2 working again so I should be able to test myself once again but more people helping is important :)

Well I've fixed every bug I'd seen when I played the missions myself. If anyone has any others that need fixing I can give them a try.

As I said on the other thread is there still a problem with trying to get the R2 campaign to work without using the techroom? Cause IIRC that problem was never fixed and it would be nice to have 3 proper official campaigns for TBP rather than two and one you have to play as individual missions.

I'm going to edit Storming the Castle so you lose two wings on very easy and one on easy. (Either that or remove some warheads from one of the later wings when things start getting busy).

But apart from difficulty balancing the missions are done. All the bug fixing seems to be working fine.

"Run and Seek/Run and Hide"

I just can't get this one right. I can scan the capital ship but how do you scan those subsystems on the base? The other thing is navigating out of that place... Where the heck is that navpoint? When I press alt-N which is supposed to be next navpoint nothing happens - just a beep. Where does that navpoint show up? Radar or some other place?

And yes... I am a total newbie in this game. ;)

To scan a subsystem simply cycle through subsystems with the s key or point at one and pick it with the v key (Once you've already targetted it of course).

As for how to target the navpoint it's on your escort list isn't it? Just press e to cycle through ships on your escort list.
