What should I buy for PS2?
At top performance, the Xbox is more powerful than the PS2.  It's simply a case of technological progression.

PS2 is quite a bit slower than X-Box...basically because they are a year apart and the X-Box benefitted from some substantial leaps in power.  But that never really slowed Sony down I don't think.  They have a ton of games for their platform and they made well on what the PS2 was capable of.

What should I buy for PS2?
I demoed a PS2 at EB games and found the games... lacking. Maybe it's just me, but I find the PS2 controller very uncomfortable. In addition, when compared to the PS2, multiplatform games look better on the Xbox. The way I see it, if you want JRPGs and MGS, you get the PS2. If you like Western RPGs (like the Elder Scrolls, KOTOR), racing games, action platformers (Ninja Gaiden), and FPSs, your best bet is the Xbox.

If I had the money to buy a PC, I'd refuse to buy a console too. Thanks to everyone who's suggested titles here. Much appreciated. I'll look into them.

I have a reasonably decent PC which I find the money to upgrade every so often but I still buy consoles simply because it broadens my gaming options. A good thing since PC games seem to have turned to **** lately.

I find the PS2 controller far better for horizontal than vertical movement; I think upwards presses on the stick stretch the underside tendons of your thumb a bit too much for my taste.  I hated the xbox controller when I tried it, though; when I got the PS2 I basically had a choice of all 3 machines (it was a present), so I basically picked the one with the best footy game on it :D

Otherwise I'd have bought a gamecube; I probably still would if it wasn't for the backwards compatibility of the Revolution.

I understand. I have PS2 in the living room. It's used for watching DVDs, not playing. I have one game, Hardware, and I got it for free when registered my console. There are few games for PS2 that I'd like to have (eg. WWE Smackdown 2, NFS:U2, GTA: SA), but I probably spend the money on PC.

I wouldn't bother with the WWE games. They seem to have gone backwards since Smackdown 2 on the PSOne.

Wrestling games are surely the only game more real than the subject they're based on.

Go get a Cube, if you don't mind the general cutesiness of the 1st party games. The gameplay and controller are top-notch. As is the price

Plus we get the coolest exclusive character on Soul Calibur 2 :D

yeah, but it's worth getting a 'Cube just to play Prime, and since you already got the Cube for Prime you might as well get Wind Waker and Echoes which are also excellent. At least, that's what I did. :nervous:

Aye, Prime is easily one of the best games ever.  ^^;  Not quiite up to par with Super Metroid, but oh well.  Right now, the games I'm most looking forwards to are Shadow of the Colossus and LoZ: Twilight Princess.
