Already, many US politicians are looking mighty annoyed, which is always a good sign. They vow bloody vengance, yea unto a thousand generations! over here. Same old bla bla bla.

Personally, I think it's about damn time. The world needs more diversity in news coverage. Al Jazeera was revolutionary simply because it broke the Western stanglehold on news media. And now, they're a force to be reckoned with. So the more, the merrier.

Personally, I support anything that promotes international integration, be it official/governmental or unofficial, like this, and if they want to use this to express contrary (to the US) local views, more power to them.

Intriguing that they put Danny Glover on the advisory board though...

Diversity is great, but if they all spout crap, it negates any positive influence of diversity.

The US plan is intended to counter what it called anti-US propaganda.

AKA "Their Version Of The Truth"

Everybody puts their own spin on things. You should know that. Al-Jazeera is not omniscent and holy. They have their own problems. These folks won't be omniscent and holy either. And if they have an anti-US bent, then they're going to be biased against the US. It won't be out-and-out lying, but it may be worded funny.

Certainly, no one media outlet is omniscient or holy, and that includes al-Jazeera as well as Telesur as well as CNN.  And naturally, everyone puts thier own spin on things, that much is unavoidable, so it only makes sense to have a vareity of viewpoints, in hopes of arriving at the truth that lies between them.

Nowadays, 'anti US propaganda' is used interchangeably for 'harsh criticism of the US', though, so I'd take that little phrase with a pinch of salt.

I mean, isn't this;
[q]ast week the House of Representatives voted to enable the US administration to begin broadcasting its own TV signals to Venezuela.[/q]

Making the US look like massive hypocrites in that sense?  It's propanda barrage of a democratic country, after all. (plus presumably they're using Fox News, which would be a crime against humanity in itself........)

Well, it's not like it's the first independent TV channel on South America. Neither is it the first TV channel in South America to have bias against the US on its programming. And it looks like they're not biased only agains the US, considering the first reports they've aired...
Probably away. Contact through email.

I wish someone would just tell the truth, because people are too lazy to listen to the same story five times from "different" sources and come up with their own conclusion, so they just have untruth spoon-fed to them.

But Telesur has contintental aspirations, and it seems the resources to pull it off. Isn't Brazil planning it's own trans-regional TV station? I read somewhere that's the reason they're not invloved in Telesur.

anti-US anything has lost all meaning, the phrase is too overused. The Congressional press report has such gems as "enemy of freedom". And besides, even if it was blatant anti-US propaganda, which I certainly don't think it is, it's only reciprocating what the US has been doing for years.

Though fortunately, the US public-relations machine abroad has an anti-Midas touch - whatever they touch turns to ****. Observe al-Hurra.
