Wisdom teeth........
I hate them. I really do. I went to the dentist today. I had 4 wisdom teeth that were impacted, so they needed to be removed. I also had a small cavity that needed to be filled.

So he first filled the cavity, that was no problem. Then they proceeded to remove the wisdom teeth. Originally I was supposed to have all 4 removed today. Unfortunatly, things did not proceed quite as planned. My teeth turned out to be deeply rooted, and so they did not come out easily. They removed the top two, but by the time they started working on the 3rd one, i could actually feel the pain of them removing it. They stopped, game me a local anestetic, and then tried again. The anestetic had no effect. They tried more. Still no effect. So, they decided to stitch it up and try again next week. For some reason I couldn't feel them stitching it up.

So now I am on vicodin for the pain. I am extremely tired right now. It is discouraging to know that in a week I will have to go through this crap again with the other 2 teeth.

I hate wisdom teeth, I really do.

But about half of my baby teeth had to be pulled because they were deep rooted and Iv'e never had a cavity. :D

EDIT:  actually I think I have room for my bottom ones to come in at least.

My best friend just got her wisdom teeth out. She was puking from the meds and her face was all puffed out. I'm not looking forward to having that done to me.

I was blissfully unconcious for three of them; after the removal of the first it was decide it would be better for it to be done that way.

I was given some kind of liquid painkiller, don't know the name, and Vicoden if it got really bad. I took some Vicoden one night. I'm never using the stuff again. You get rather loopy, and you know you're loopy. It's very annoying.

I still have all my wisdom teeth (which explains a lot about why I'm just so wise - and modest, to boot!). My dentist was wise as well - he pulled my 4 rear molars to make room for my wisdom teeth. See, look:

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Not everyone gets wisdom teeth, however. So I'm told anyway. They are supposed to arrive between 18-20. I'm nearly 21, no sign of them yet. Maybe I'll get a lucky break, touch wood.

Carl had his wisdom teeth out. one of the holes left over from where the tooth used to be got infected because they accidently left something in, like a piece of tooth or something, so then i had to get that out too.

I've got mine, and had no problems (except for that it hurt when they grew), so I don't have to "enjoy" having them pulled out (expecially since I really hate syringes, alot).

I only have 2 wisdom teeth.  I'm somewhat concerned over where the other 2 will decide to sprout.

Oh, and I still have a wisdom tooth sprouting through at 22-and-a-bit.    'twas quite sore last night, as a matter of fact.

I had an impacted wisdom tooth problem a little while ago. Real nasty. Still a hole where it was.

It started growing partially under an existing tooth and so that had to be pulled too.

Mine weren't painful. The first one was ripped off my steely bone with no repercussions whatsoever, the next one gave me a great chance to act like a terminally ill person - coughing blood in public is awesome.

The last two were removed by my country's adamant army, while my company mates were shooting and blowing **** up in rainstorms. Also, I got a very nice mix of painkillers and tranquilizers, and the final painkiller medicine was morphine, which I could freely inject into my cloggen veins.

The last 24 hours of my oh-so-magnificent WISDOM TEETH OPERATION were awesome, being high on morphine is really cool. I don't wonder how people get addicted to that stuff so quickly.
lol wtf

I had a rather good experience getting my wisdom teeth out; it didn't hurt much, I got codine, and when i got to high school the next day all the girls were like oh does it hurt bad. Attention from the opposite sex derived from sympathy is cool because you don't have to do anything to deserve it.

I'm lucky I don't have to have mine removed, but this little bit of good fortune is made up for with bad dental genes. Not that they look bad, just hygeine that runs through the family. What is the purpose of wisdom teeth anyway?

They are vestigial. The human jaw has gotten smaller over over the past 10,000+ years and most jaws cant fit them anymore.

How good your teeth are really does depend on genetics. I knew someone who never had a cavity, despite only brushing her teeth once every 4 days or so (and she was the daughter of a dentist oddly enough).

So far I have only had one cavity. Good thing I inherited my mothers teeth. :) Unfortunately, her wisdom teeth were pretty deeply rooted too. I guess it is a small price to pay for no cavities.

And nghtm1r is right, Vicodin does make you feel loopy. I can deal with that better than the pain. I guess because it does make you feel loopy makes it addictive.

On my last visit to the dentist a couple months ago I learned I should have my wisdom teeth removed too.  I guess it wasn't imperative which is a very good thing because a) my budget won't absorb the cost of the operation very well and b) I don't want to go through with the op anyway, doped up or not.  I find the two circumstances compliment each other nicely.
