Cap ships appear as fighters
I couldn't find anything on this problem through searching.

I started Sol: a History, and all the capships appear as fighters. I also had this problem with a few missions in BR's version of Derelict. I'd just switch to the original with those. However, there seems to be no workaround for this. I have Inferno installed and I extracted everything to the main FS2 folder as the readme says, and I run it with Inferno on. I also don't see command briefings either, just blank grids.

Sounds like you've got a table file screwing things up for you.

Ignore the Inferno readme. It's pre SCP anyway IIRC. Move the inferno VP files to a folder called Inferno. Rename your data folder to data-Old. Make a new folder called Data. Make a new folder called SAH. Make a folder within that called Data. Treat that as if it was your Freespace2\Data folder and install SAH to it.

Check if you have anything ending in .tbl in your main FS2 folder.

Choose no mod in the launcher. In the custom flags section of the launcher as the last flag (if you have any others) type -mod SAH, Inferno.

I had to clean out my main data folder, since it put everything in there.

Hmm, now it's not on the campaign list. There are no tables in the main FS2 folder. Oh wait a minute...I had missed that first data folder.

Nope, it's not even on the list.

OK, that's very confusing. Is there an easier way or could you explain that again?

What exactly did you do?

A bunch of things:

Inferno has its own folder
Rename  FS2\data to "data old".
Put SAH in FS2\data\SAH\data

All the data subfolders went into the above folder.

I also tried this within the Inferno\data folder. I think these two are the closest to your instructions.

Ok, what you need to do is leave the main FS2 directory alone:D

Now, make a directory called FS2\SAH and place the Inf_main.vp and Inf_2patch in that directory. Then extract the SAH zip to the FS2\SAH directory and it will place the files and create the correct directories in the FS2\SAH  path. Use the launcher and select the SAH directory and run the game np;)

Wow, that seemed like it would actually work, but now I'm getting error messages like:

Error: weapons.tbl(492):
Error: Required token = [@Laser Color:], found [@Laser Glow: 2_laserglow03]
in weapon: GTVA Rapid Laser.

File:U:\src\cvs\fs2_open.testing\code\Parse\PARSELO.CPP
Line: 531
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Now FS2 won't even run.

I keep the SCP in a seperate folder. Could this be causing the problem?

Do you have the launcher? Are you launching from it with the mod selected? Did the zip file create the Data and sub directories under the data directory in the FS2/SAH path?

Cap ships appear as fighters
Yes I have the launcher, and yes the mod is selected. The data directory is in FS2\SAH

What about the directories under data like tables, interface, maps etc..?

Cap ships appear as fighters
Yes, they're all there, as the readme said they would. I'm using the 6/13 OAL build.

Now that is REALLY weird, because with that path etc. everything should be working. Which build are you using(ie. which exe) the one with inferno or one of the latest builds like Goober's? You might try a different one. I had this exact problem with Transcend using the 1st inferno exe. Just a thought, other than that I am stumped and I am sorry mate :sigh:

I think there's something wrong with the tables. It will otherwise run the way you explained but without the tables RD. I redownloaded the campaign, but I've still got the initial problem with the briefing and the ships.

The only thing you'd done wrong following my advice was installing SAH to FS2\Data\SAH instead of FS2\SAH. That's my bad cause I didn't make it clear enough :)
Red Diamond's advice was basically the same as mine except that I was using multimod so that you could swap between inferno and SAH with the minimum of effort :)

The errors you're getting now are probably due to the fact that the SCP have toughened the rules up about what will make a table error cause the game to crash out.

Try going into the launcher and using Troubleshoot>Disable Parsing errors.

BTW SCP builds and the launcher should always be in the main FS2 folder.

SAH uses pre patch tables which have a lot of little errors in that FS Open doesn't like. Retail will run it.
The R1 SCP patch fixes those problems for the main Inferno campaign but SAH needs updating to work.

Yep. That's what I figured the problem was. Disabling the strict parsing will prevent those errors from popping up at the start of the mission but they'll still be there and so can crash the mission further down the line.

Well, that stopped the crashing, but nothing else. I figured it was outdated or something along those lines, so I moved on to another campaign for now. Thanks for your help.
