About those FreeSpace 2 models...
As you all know, space crafts in FreeSpace 1 and FreeSpace 2 are all in POF format which is unreadable by TrueSpace or 3D Studio Max 3. So, you extract them out and use a convertor to convert them to TrueSpace format. The opem them up in TrueSpace adn edit them or render them in whatever way you like.

Here's my problem.

I only have 3D Studio Max R3 at home. I don;t have TrueSpace. I don't even know what the buttons mean. Nobody I know in Singapore uses it. And the convertor only converts to TrueSpace format. Then, what about the textures and the texture data on what skin fits which part of the model? The same problem arises if I want to convert TrueSpace format to 3D Studio Max format.

So, I was wondering. Are there any projects or anybody out there who can provide me with the 3D Studio Max format of the FreeSpace 2 ships and/or fighters? So that I can render my own pictures.

The HLP boys had said (a long time now   )that they would put up a libery with 3DS and Cob files of the Freespace ships. I guess they are busy and alot of work a being done behind "closed doors".

If you don't wanna wait there are options. You could use TS (probably ver. 3.X and higher) and save the cob files in .3ds format. And then load them into 3DS Max. Or you could use a program called Polytrans to convert the models from .cob to .3ds.

There are probably more ways, but wait and hear what the HLP guys have to say.

Or...

Use Kazans POF CS to convert the pof to a COB. Then use 3D Exploration to convert it to just about anything.

What about the textures then? I mean if you convert a pof to cob file, wouldn't the texture data (like where this skin is supposed to be on which part of the ship..) be lost? Then I would have to do the skinning again.

no, that would kind of defet the perpose of a converter, if it didn't convert.

I see. I really need to learn how to use that convertor tool....that POF CS. Where can I download it?

About those FreeSpace 2 models...
Actually, Kazan's PCS has a COB2POF converter that seems to work just fine- and from COB, you can use TS1 or 3DXploration to convert the model to .3ds, and can then import it into MAX.

Okay. I've done all that. Now I'm left wondering "What happened to the textures?".
