748 Days in space...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4156692.stm

Seems like it would get pretty boring after a while.

Quote
The Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev has broken the record for the most cumulative time in space - clocking up 748 days in orbit on Tuesday. He beat a previous record of 747 days, 14 hours, 14 minutes and 11 seconds held by fellow Russian Sergei Avdeyev.

Krikalev is the current commander of the International Space Station (ISS) and is scheduled to stay on board the orbiting platform until October.

He has also stayed aboard the Mir space station during his 20-year career.

The cosmonaut is serving out a stint on the ISS that began on 14 April. Together with Nasa astronaut John Phillips, he hosted the crew of space shuttle Discovery when they arrived at the station in July.

Dude, he's in space. You know he's got internet access. Between Pr0n and ebooks, and of course all the cable channels you want, he's probably got his leisure time sorted.

That and he's shagging every female that hits the station.

Mir is no longer in orbit.

I hope that guy's been working out since he's been up there. It'd be awesome to stay up there for a little while though.

I can see the typical post on a site such as eSingles.com:

"[email protected]: I am a lonely, single Russian male looking for a lifelong companion. I have a steady career as an airforce officer, but I am away for long periods of time. However I am available via IM or E-Mail for at least 12 hours a day.

Even if it was boring, I'd be willing to do a lot of things in order to get to experience that boredom. :p

A multimillion dollar high-bandwidth connection, routed through 3 satellites to a specially build ground installation*.... all to allow the quick downloading of Prestroika Smutfest #23

*All that is completely made up, of course, and thus utter bollocks.  So sue me.  Knowing the Russians, it's probably being done  via 2 cups connected by a very, very, very long piece of string

The cans and string are connected to a giant computer in Siberia that uses vaccuum tubes as opposed to intergrated circuits.

Well a few months ago there was a big hoohah about the govm't cutting funding and letting it burn up. Don't know if it's going to be maintained, disassembled, rescued or abandoned now.

That was before they got the new guy in charge of NASA. He wants to save it, I think.

Are they still going to build that new one? Because it'd make sense to keep it until that was launched...
