Ok, I am still not sure about the legality of the ISO download of Freespace 2.  I just need a couple seconds.

1.  Has anyone ever gotten in trouble for it?
2.  If I do download it, will I get a "not-so-friendly" knock on my door?
3.  Is it worth it, or should I just buy the thing if I find a cheap one?

I'll take the lock part out, for the time being :D.

Thanks for your time.

1. No.
2. No you wont.
3. COMPLETELY worth it.

It is free, legal, and safe and FUN. No one has ever gotten in trouble for it or a unfriendly knock on their door.

EDIT:
FS2 (the disks and files) are legal to share with friends family and aquaintences. Which in simple form is: everyone. The ISO's is another type of 'file' and still is legal. Its legal any way you look at it. As long as your business dose not try to sell it for money:P

I hope ya get it soon!

Well, I'll be Hugh hefner at the playboy mansion, that's good to hear.

Now, I have another question.  I have the movies from FS2 downloaded as .avi format to watch.  Now, since I have limited disc space, once I use the ISO's and install the game, do I need the ISO's for any purpose other than watching the in-game vids that I already downloaded?

Not really if you stick to FS2_Open. If you ever decide to play using retail or Tom's Old Build (For multiplayer) you'll have problems if you don't have the CDs.

If you have a CD burner you absolutely should burn the images to disk to prevent this problem.

I do (have a CD burner, that is), but no CD's :(.  I might get 5 CD-R's tomarrow.  But, What is FS_Open?  Enlighten me :D.

It improves the graphics and features (/options) of Freespace 2. It edits and improves the Source Code Engin (What the game is made out of). It is a great deal of fun if you can get it to work (Mine don't). But you should join me in MuilPlayer!

The SCP forum is located Here.

I have one more question.

If I do burn the ISO's on a CD, do I just leave them in straight ISO format?  Does it work like it is, or do I have to convert it to something else?

IIRC, when it is burned to CD, it automatically is reformatted to 'playable' format. But im not sure.

That's why I'm getting 5 CD's :D.

And what if the ISO is too big for the cd?  I wonder....

Oh, and I'm glad I shouldn't feel guilty about this :D.

Oh, Do I need a special burning program to burn the ISO's on the CD, or can I just use the windows cut and paste method?

Get Nero, use the option to burn image to a disk.

Is there any option that doesn't cost money?  Lol.

A file called something like "Dameon" should do that. Free and it should burn the ISO's no problem.

Unless they've done something in the new revision Daemon Tools will only let you mount CDs AFAIK.

Whatever you use to burn CD's will almost certainly have a "Burn Image" style option but if the unlikely event that yours doesn't you can always simply mount your image and copy the fake CD as if you had two CD drives.

I like the way you think :D.

Well, I got the CD's today, so if there aren't any objections, I guess it's time for me to get started!

EDIT: Bad news.  The place where I was going to get my ISO's has reached it's bandwidth limit :(.  Now I can't get the ISO's, at least not for a while.

Which site are you using?  Try freespacezone if you're not already,
"You shot me in the bollocks, Tim"
"Like I said, no hard feelings"

Tried it already.  First mirror gives me a 404 error, and the 2nd one give me a bandwidth exceeded message.

Il ask him about that. He recently said to use the 2nd mirror only, but il ask him about the bandwith. But keep checkin.
