The bumpmapping on those 2 Call of Duty 2 (Right?) shots looks a bit overdone and to glossy

Specular, surely?

But, yeah, it does lack a bit of the duller diffuse lighting you get in reality.  It's probably partly technological (presumably a pain in the arse to have a 'real' complexity of varying light sources).

more likly its a huge extra bit of comutational power to calculate specular lighting, so the guys who implement it wanted to mke sure it was worth it.

why is it that whenever I see screenshots for Ghost Recon (3?) I think of MechWarrior?

I thought it was just factoring in another set of pixel colour values into the rendering calculations?

I too was expecting a huge Mech to come out of the city.

That would indeed kick arse.

We need a new proper stompy mech game.  One where you can break houses in bits and stuff.  And maybe crash through forests, too.
