I was playing some random missions in the FS2 campaign last night and something caught my attention. Well, only an FS diehard would find this interesting, but that's okay around here.

Load up sm2-07 (The Fog of War) and go to the stage 3 of the command briefing, at the point where Khafre says "We begin launching our squadrons..." Listen to the vasudan speech in the background. Sound familiar? It's what the Vasudan pilot persona in FS1 says when you attack him.

This suddenly jumped out at me as I listened to that briefing and made me burst out laughing, as this bit of speech is rather funny. I can just imagine the Vasudan shaking his fist at you as he says that.

Not quite as bad as incoming forces. Every "sentence" or so, you'd hear "Sudo Galaxia Gia!"

They say that vasudan language is dependent on the position to the emperor. So Khafre might go "YOSH HYOFAE" to a subordinate, only to find that the Psamtik's position has shifted slightly, so his sentence becomes something like "We begin launching our squadrons...on that ship, Terran."

What would really have been funny is if that FS1 Vasudan curse (when the Isis in sm1-08 in FS1 dies) was reused somewhere else like this thing was. I guess the FS1 translator couldn't make heads or tails of that, which may have been a good thing as it might have come out like:

In the FS1 mission Exodus, the message translated

"They're coming!  They can't be stopped!"

is apparently spoken in Vasudan as

"Shave ush, Jebush!  Shave ush!"

Just to make sure we're talking about the same things, these are the filenames:

6_a1m8_f.wav (freespace.vp/special)
6_a3m1_c.wav (freespace.vp/special)

6_a3m1_af.wav (freespace.vp/special) is another interesting one, as the translator seems to take longer to start up and you can make out more of the background vasudan talk.

hahaha....I just noticed another instance of that original one I referred to. It's in sm301_db_01.wav (stu_fs2.vp/command_briefings), at the point where he says "The tactical significance of this achievement..."
