Reverse thrusters? As in, moving backwards or slowing down?

I wonder if he means afterburners.  Which would mean that he isn't running in compatability mode.  Open the properties pane for the executable and change the compatability mode to Windows98/Me and see if that fixes whatever your problem is.

The problem is in the code for FS1 itself. If compatability mode doesn't work you're stuck with getting FS2 and playing the port on it I'm afraid.

(Or getting a Mac or Unix box and playing the retail FS2 port which also plays FS1).

Shivan ships have the ability to slide (left, right, up, down) and to reverse.  Terran and Vasudan ships don't, but in theory they could.  To enable this function on Terran and Vasudan ships, one needs to do the following:
• Alter the table entry for the ship you want to be able to slide and/or reverse.  Terran and Vasudan ships have entries like this (note the zeros):
    Code: [Select]
    $Max Velocity: 0.0, 0.0, 55.0[/li]
$Rotation time: 4.0, 5.0, 5.0
    $Rear Velocity: 0.0
    $Forward accel: 3.0
    $Forward decel: 1.5
    $Slide accel: 0.0
    $Slide decel: 0.0
whereas  Shivan ships have entries like this:
    Code: [Select]
    $Max Velocity: 20.0, 20.0, 75.0
    $Rotation time: 2.5, 2.0, 2.0
    $Rear Velocity: 30.0
    $Forward accel: 2.0
    $Forward decel: 0.75
    $Slide accel: 2.0
    $Slide decel: 2.0

  • Bind keys to control sliding/reversing.  As I recall, the ability to do so was added into fs2_open at one point a while back.

I still have the converted models lying around, but my lack of knowledge of table files prevented me from trying them out in-game.  It's a pity that no one ever converted the "D4" Pyro-GX over; it's a real beauty.

i've given Terran craft reverse thrusters before, it's very easy. especially lateral thrusters.

*resisting urge to make reverse thrusters at 100 m/s :nervous:*
