Squadron Nomenclature
How are the numbers for squadrons decided (like the 53rd Hammerheads or the 70th Blue Lions)?

Is it by fleet, like each fleet has numbers 0 through 300 to choose from? Or does each fleet get a certain number range, like the 7th fleet has numbers 100 through 200 to choose from, and the 3rd fleet has numbers 200 through 300?

Or is it chronological where each new squadron gets the next highest number, no matter what fleet they're in.

Or is it just random?

Joe.

  • What is this? I don't even...
Maybe whenever a new squadron is created it is assigned a number..
Ie. First Squadron created 1st whatever
Second created 2nd whatever
etc..

As far as I know, there are no rules.  Use whatever numbers seem good.  But don't use 10th or 6th, those are mine.

Anything over 408 and less than 1253 based in Sol are mine. Excepting 612 and 985.

And yes- just random numbers and names- the 409th Bobbing Penguins! The 54th Armless Bobs!

Anyone else want to reserve your squadron numbers so I don't take them?

91st Evil Eyes

I'm making a FRED Zone multiplayer mission about this squadron. It's a reconaissance squad that has to fly Pegasus stealth fighters to scan a group of Sathanas juggernauts up close during the Capella evacuation at the end of FS2.

(Excerpt from the "Their Finest Hour" mission briefing by Adimral Petrarch: "Command needs a closer look at the juggernauts, so we'll be sending in the 91st. And as for the 70th Blue Lions, we've got something special for you...")

It's an interesting setup.
Though I hate to say it, when I finish my campaign it'll have numerics that may or may not already be used.

I've already got 5 of the 6 squads set up, just waiting on the phoenix logos now.  I'd do them myself but it's a pain imitating someone else's style.

This is a sample logo for the 21st vixens.

Since my campaign will take place within the ranks of a third species who won't be affiliated with the GTVA.
It's like saying the shivans can't have the 53rd Red Dwarves because the number's been 'taken'.

Plus it'd be impossible for everyone here to get together and say "Okay, here's the list. Stryke has ###, ###, and ####.  Zylon has ##, #####, and the ever-popular ###'ers."

Plus it makes little-to-do if I don't finish the campaign.
No time to do anything anymore, and little to no help.

(Most of them) will be used in my (taking forever) campaign.

The first two I hand drew the symbols going off of ideas from Egyptian hieroglyphics (and picked the names that way also)... trying to make them look Vasudan.

The others... well, bonus points for who guesses what game I found those icons in.

Here are the ones I have used in The Procyon Insurgency:

92nd Squadron

161st Squadron

228th Squadron

They are Vasudan, so the logos have to look kind of abstract.
