new plan: we're staying in Houston... (because we'd sit for 2 hours and not even enter the highway yet. ALL roads out of the town are filled up). we're taking all personal belongings, photo albums, computers, cameras, laptops, etc. and driving to the offices i work at. i've got a key, and authorization to stay there during the storm. also means we can pull our cars into the warehouse. that thing's built of steel and concrete, it's not going anywhere. plus we'll be in the offices, built inside the already strong warehouse. i don't think we'll have anything to worry about.
reason we're not leaving, is people are calling in and saying they drove from Galveston to Houston (normally a 1 hour and a bit drive) and it's taken them 17 hours +. highway 290 isn't even MOVING. (seriously). i mean, we'll drive for a solid day, 24 hours, and we won't even get near college station. we wouldn't even get to waller (normally a 25 - 30 minute drive down the highway). they said they're going to open up all incoming lanes, and turn the whole highway into one big outbound road (i.e. there's 3 lanes going, 3 lanes coming, and the 2 lane feeder on each side. 10 lanes altogether. 5 coming, 5 going. they're going to make it 8 lanes going, 2 lanes coming in). however, they say they won't even get to it before the hurricane hits.
only thing worse than being at home in Houston during this hurricane = sitting on your car, out of gas, on a highway full of cars. tornados > cars.
also, apparently the hurricane's shifted to the east a bit, meaning Houston no longer will get the "dirty" (East) side of the hurricane... we'll get more of the west part. that's very good.
will keep you all updated. living in this house the rest of the day and night, and tomorrow around lunch time (hurricane scheduled to hit in late afternoon -- evening) we'll move to the offices. i'll have the fiber lines to "play" on, plus they've got TVs, microwaves, fridges, a lot of computers, you name it

. should be fun
anyone up for an IP game of FS2 around now?
