Looks like it's gonna head north of Houston now, toward west LA.

i think we're still going to go to dallas later this afternoon/evening.

got most of the house boarded up.  i'm going to run down to work in a few minutes to shut down the servers and unplug them.

dude, leave now. dallas takes 5 hours normally right? well count on it taking at least 8.

we're taking back roads.  my aunt and uncle are ahead of us, and they say they're traveling 40 miles per hour consistently.  they're actually going in a semi-circle to Dallas.  it's actually on the outskirts of Dallas, so there are backroads to it.

assuming we leave at 8:00 this evening, if it takes 12 hours, we'll still be looking at 8:00 friday morning, giving us another good 6-8 hours to play with before the rain is supposed to start.  i still say we should've left early this morning or last night, but my parents want the house boarded up and such

new plan:  we're staying in Houston... (because we'd sit for 2 hours and not even enter the highway yet.  ALL roads out of the town are filled up). we're taking all personal belongings, photo albums, computers, cameras, laptops, etc. and driving to the offices i work at.  i've got a key, and authorization to stay there during the storm.  also means we can pull our cars into the warehouse.  that thing's built of steel and concrete, it's not going anywhere.  plus we'll be in the offices, built inside the already strong warehouse.  i don't think we'll have anything to worry about.

reason we're not leaving, is people are calling in and saying they drove from Galveston to Houston (normally a 1 hour and a bit drive) and it's taken them 17 hours +.  highway 290 isn't even MOVING.  (seriously).  i mean, we'll drive for a solid day, 24 hours, and we won't even get near college station.  we wouldn't even get to waller (normally a 25 - 30 minute drive down the highway).  they said they're going to open up all incoming lanes, and turn the whole highway into one big outbound road (i.e. there's 3 lanes going, 3 lanes coming, and the 2 lane feeder on each side.  10 lanes altogether.  5 coming, 5 going.  they're going to make it 8 lanes going, 2 lanes coming in).  however, they say they won't even get to it before the hurricane hits.

only thing worse than being at home in Houston during this hurricane = sitting on your car, out of gas, on a highway full of cars.  tornados > cars.

also, apparently the hurricane's shifted to the east a bit, meaning Houston no longer will get the "dirty" (East) side of the hurricane... we'll get more of the west part.  that's very good.

will keep you all updated.  living in this house the rest of the day and night, and tomorrow around lunch time (hurricane scheduled to hit in late afternoon -- evening) we'll move to the offices.  i'll have the fiber lines to "play" on, plus they've got TVs, microwaves, fridges, a lot of computers, you name it :D :D.  should be fun

anyone up for an IP game of FS2 around now?

Best of luck to you, Stealth.  Keep safe, and keep dry. Remember, if the power goes out, use that generator to keep FS2 running; that's your highest priority. :p  And glad to hear that you made it out MP. It does look like the thing is taking a slightly more northward track, so hopefully Houston will be spared the worst of it.

why not?  we've got another 12 hours till it hits us, and we're taking everything valuable to the warehouse

our house is surrounded by trees.  if a tree falls and breaks open the roof during a hurricane, all our belongings will end up in galveston...

we have plenty of time.  i'm taking my clothes, computers, DVDs, camera, etc. and taking it down there.

Impressed as I am by your insanity, I'd have only packed 1 box per game.  At most.

naaa we've got a ton of time, and a ton of space (4 cars) to take stuff to the warehouse.  i could take my bed if i wanted.  we've got another good 6-8 hours before it even starts raining, and since this house is GOING to most likely get hurt, if not destroyed, then why not take everything.  my siblings and parents have taken all their clothes, jewelry, photo albums, i've even got all my DVDs.  cause when we have to rebuild everything, which we might, it'll be easier and cheaper the more we have.  i'm just packing my FS/Descent games, cause they hold the most value to me of all my games.  i'm going to most likely take a couple others if i have room, like starcraft, half life 2, KotoR, Worms3D, worms blast, rainbox 6, janes f/a 18 super hornet, Warcraft, Frozen Throne, etc.

i'll be fine :)  the hurricane hasn't hit yet ;)

change of plans.  we're going to hole up in a back room of my dad's restaurant instead.

this means i won't have internet an hour from now till God knows when.  power's going to be out for probably 2 weeks or something.  i'll try to find a connection to post some pictures or something in the meantime though.  restaurant windows and doors are boarded up, but i'll find a peep hole when the hurricane first hits and post you rubber-necks a couple of pictures

take care everyone

Stealth out for the hurricane

Don't get your arse killed trying to take pictures for us. Leave that to the CNN, NBC and the like. God knows there's too many journalists anyways... :p
