I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not...and Mantis doesn't appear to work for me.
For the past few days, I've been having some problems with FSO. First, I downloaded FS2 from this website, the one that was about 675 MB. With that, I downloaded the lastest media VPs: mv_music, mv_textures, mv_models, mv_effects, (mv_core came with the FS2 download) and I also downloaded enhanced shockwave (not 3D) and explosion files in the maps and effects folder. I also have the lastest build 3.6.7 installed.

The first time I played everything was working fine, and I tried the single player missions found in the tech room titled massive battle and massive battle2. Ever since I played those missions, the new afterburner effects did not work for Terran or Vasudan ships. The large stars turned back into their original retail form. One of the largest impacts that I have found is that the Hercules model is no longer there, except for the cockpit. Each time I go look into the tech room, the cockpit is the only thing that is visible. Also, the glowing portion of the Deimos is completely gone, leaving a large open gap where new textures used to be.

Finally, the warp effect is back to its original form. I tried using the 3d model option, but the new light effect was still missing.

I have re-downloaded FS2, and the problems still remain. By installing the explosion/shockwave files and vps one by one, I found out that when I take out the model vp, the problem with the herc and deimos is no longer there, yet the effects problem still remain and when I click on the Leviathan in the tech room I get the error:

I've tried to use the optimized P4 version of the build, no help. Here is my command line: D:\My Games\Freespace 2\Freespace 2\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_367_p4.exe -spec -glow -pcx32 -d3dmipmap -2d_poof -rlm -orbradar -3dwarp. The problem seems to remain no matter how many times I redownload the same vps or FS2, and I think I am out of options. I am very sorry for this long post, but I thank you all for your time.

Go to the features tab and turn on jpg,tga textures.

I don't know if this'll help anything, but the mv_music vp has been buggy for as long as I can remember. This doesn't sound like an mv_music crash, but try removing it regardless.

I also seem to recall that the game doesn't like running in directories with spaces in them... or was that just FRED? I don't remember.

And what sort of graphics card are you running this on?

Well, karajorma nailed it. Thank you, I would have never guessed that one click of the mouse could solve all of those problems. Yeah, mv_music works fine, and yes, the Herc was like that in game and it was very funny to look at. It was just a cockpit with engine lights behind it. But anyways, thanks for the help guys.

No problem. The fact that I'd actually been looking at the model of the Herc in modelview earlier in the day helped :D

Hey guys, I have one other concern.... I do not know if this is true for everyone else, but when I go into the tech room, push shift+ctrl+s, and look at the SF Aeshma, I notice that it is the only Shivan fighter with no red glowmaps. It's all gray. I do not know if it is designed to be like that with FSO, but I know for sure the Aeshma had red parts in the original retail version. I have left all options the same, except for now I have jpg and tga textures enabled as well. Am I the only one with a gray SF Aeshma?

By the way, is this the correct texture for the SC Cain in FSO?



I like how you guys have differentiated not only the Cain and the Lilith, but the Fenris and the Leviathan. Very nice textures for all 4 cruisers. I just wanted to make sure this is what everyone else's Cain looks like.

As for the Aeshma, I'm not too sure what to say about it, other than does everyone else have this same gray Shivan spacecraft?

I have that same thing with the Asehma and the Cain. I didn't bother saying anything since the new Media VP's are coming soon and I figured I'd wait until then to see if it persists.

WMC: These appear to be errors with the current media VPs.
The Aeshma's main glowmap (fighter2s-01-glow) is missing, as is the Liliths (cruiser03x-01a-glow - at least I think it's the liliths - could be the other way around). The Cain's glowmap is there: cruiser03-01a-glow.pcx, so all it involves is copying that and putting the extra x into it's name. :)

I guess the server that I'm running this computer on wasn't working correctly or something, because now I can access the website. Thanks for pointing out the link. As for the two ships, I take it that they are not supposed to look like that. The Lilith looks very similar to the original in FS2, only that it has improved textures and glowmaps. I guessed that the Cain was changed that way we could tell them apart by textures, but it seems as if this is not what it's supposed to look like... or am I misunderstanding? Here's what the Lilith looks like....



By the way, what do you mean by "what star is that?" WMC? :)  I'm not very creative at making usernames.

Ah, so I did have it backwards - cain's the one with the missing glowmap, lilith's is fine. :)
There's nothing 'not working', it's just that the glowmaps themselves for these two particular ships apparently slipped through the net and weren't in the media VP's. Now that it's been spotted though, it's an easy fix for WMC to stick em in for the next media VP's. :)

m22: It sounds like the astronomical designation for an unnamed star (I think - I'm not too up on the naming conventions these days).

And yeah I probably pruned those two maps by accident.
