No, I don't believe there is. And this would be better placed in Freespace Modding :)

Unless he wants a high poly version for renders not gaming of course :D

AFAIK there was some work done on a high poly arcadia for the game but it was never finished (maybe never even started. I only vaguely remember discussions of whether or not the spike that is present on Outpost Riviera should be included or not).

EDIT : Remembered where I saw it now. It's on the high poly status thread in FS modding.

The Arcadia is on Vasudan Admiral's list, not too long after finishing the HTL Lucifer and TC-TRI.

What, will it have chamfered edges or something? Have all the little texture greebles fully modeled?

There's actually a thread about it in Freespace modding.  Basically, the idea is to make it not suck.

Oh my god.. i just figured out waht the Tri in TC-Tri stood for, i thaught it was because there were 3 sets of side containers, or becasue it was the third terran container or somthing, i feel so fufiled!

TC-Tri: BW started the model, I fiddled with it a bit, and I'll finish it after my final exams (5th Nov :( ).

Arcadia: Top of the to do list after finishing the aformentioned TC-Tri and Lucifer. :)

How 'bout this for the TC-TRI... make it a bit wider (the primary hull, not the boxy extras) and add grooves in the side to match up with the grapler arms from the Triton.

And it still makes no sense. Who in their right mind would design a cargo container that way?

No ammount of HTLing will change the illogicality of the thing, but it was never meant to. :p
But really, who cares? I find even the old model more visually interesting than real world shipping containers. There are enough boringly shaped cargo containers already. :)

I've previously discussed doing that with BW over MSN actually, but we decided against it since we'd already built the mesh. The docking clamps modeled in should be enough to hold it structurally, and leaving it like this allows for more interesting docking structures and sequences (animated) of other ships, rather than having to use triton-shaped arms all the time. :)

Yeah, but there are better ways to make "pretty" shipping containers. I've posted at least two ideas around here somewhere (one of them is probably not publicly shown though).

The whole idea of the HTL TC-Tri was to fix the detail rather than the design though.

Anyway, do you mean 'pretty' as in detailed and functional looking? If you mean 'pretty' as in cool looking, well, that's quite an achievement for cargo containers. ;) Either way, I'd love to see them if possible. :)

No sign of any such containers still on HLP though - I searched for 'cargo OR containers' posted by you and there were just three resulting posts - two from this thread and one fleeting mention of 'cargo'. :\

I know that wasn't the point of the HTLing of the TC-Tri, honest. I was just complaining in general.

As for the rest, I meant "pretty" as in "more than just a square box, but functional in a sensible way". One design (actually a long design line, as an idea is developed over decades by a corporation) will be used in the 158th. The other idea I have was inspired by some Homeworld concept art I saw somewhere. I've still got the models. I'll pull them out sometime in the next couple of days.

Awesome job on the TC.

As far as its functionality goes - give it a rest. A lot of things in FreeSpace aren't based on logic or functional/productive design. The only thing that needed to be done was to make what already exists look good.

Mission complete.

feh...the TC-TRI is just a BIT too deeply grooved...if the grooves were shallower it'd be perfect. Other than that, it's awesome.
