The point of the FSURP is for canon references.

All non canon material (such as the 2370 date) should be removed and placed within it's own categories in the future.

Note: Even for non canon it is not based on decent facts, (no offense wEvil   ) since no Shivan ships escaped from Capella which we know of, Shivan forces after the battle were not within GTVA space.

Once again, keep this non-canon material for future extra reference as an option.

The FSURP was designed to provide facts on canon, this is what Killjoy mentioned on the site and wished for, and then side articles of interpretations.

Things such as PCT, tech descriptions not within FreeSpace, etc. are not canon and should not be included in the base reference.

Look at the existing timelines done by Zarathud and Sandwich, ask permission to add their data into your timeline.

Keep it canon, organize facts and pure FS facts, and filter them closely.

Then ask for people's interpretations and have them in seperate categories.

I know that a lot of folks here are good writers, but the FSURP should be for having pure reference on FS material within FS, FS2, and the FS1 Universe Reference Document released by Volition.

Some dates on what I provided 2311 and 2261 are conjecture on rough dates mentioned in the FSURD (The Universe Reference Document) these are not pure canon and so should be removed from the timeline and given estimates on what is written within the document.

I'd like to see this as a pure reference for people who do not know of the FS universe, and to prevent it from having non Volition writings taken as facts by many.

There is space for these alternate timelines, interpretations, but the space is not in the "official timeline" of Volition or what is accepted by the FSURP as canon.

To do so is to defeat the purpose of an accurate database of FS data for people to use as conjecture to make their own original plotlines and interpretations which can be added to the FSURP database.

Here's an example of why this should be done in this manner:
Some lines in the FSURD such as "...this varifies the legends the Vasudans have of their ancestry... " can be interpreted as that the Vasudans were taught by the Ancients or that the Vasudans are the Ancients.

If the FSURP accepts non canon into it's "official timeline" and does not filter non canon facts into their proper seperate regions of the site, interpretations, the possibilities given by these lines which are "FS fact" would be narrowed to the status quo of those who write for the FSURP.

If facts are kept canon, the manpower is into filtering facts in their raw form, and then interpretation is seperate, you allow for more options, more discussion.... better campaigns!

This long rant serves a purpose, the FSURP is intended as a reference to organize ideas and to show what FS fact is as well as what fans believe it should be in their own seperated documents and critiques.

To do otherwise is to not keep to Killjoy's intent and to not keep to it's namesake.

Where the hell were you when I was doing Neo-FSURP?!

FSURP, in its most basic form, should only be canon stuff.  Strictly speaking, this is only the games, but I think it can also include the Freespace Reference Bible and traceable Volition quotes.  That's it, no more, no less.  The rest is for us to make.

Neo-FSURP? Heard about it long after it was dead unfortunately.

I left the FreeSpace community for several months on end due to a project with a company called Crytek Studios which went nowhere.

Also, including traceable, recorded Volition quotes is a good idea, since it gives more "meat" for 'proper' speculation using good facts

Yes, exactly.  It can feature extensions and interpretations (such as a basic explanation of fusion drives, subspace, etc) but these should be clearly stated to be non-canon and only one possible interpretation.  Non-canonical events should not be present at all.

sorry...most of what i wrote is extrapolated fom facts in the game...im just trying to work the whole thing out, considering a deep, valid timeline is very important to my pet project as well.  I think anyone who's read lord of the rings will agree that if you have a good history half the story has already written itself.

Well, you got at least one thing wrong... the NTF rebellion was some 18 months old at the time of the main campaign.

Well wEvil, what you wrote would be classified as interpretation on the site

The "actual FSURP timeline" should be raw facts, and any lines which seem to depict dates or the rough time period of an event should have itself on the timeline or as a footnote.

Some things like: Discovery of artificial gravity?

Would have the sure note of pre-2335 though the date is not known. (we know artificial gravity is used on GTVA ships due to the cutscenes)

Things like discovery of sub-space has a mention such as "over two decades ago" so the note on the timeline would be at the 2 decade mark before 2335 and any time prior.
