"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Yup. Part of the ill-fated "Make a Freespace-themed smilie but keep it under 5K alright kthxbye" thread.

So, do you want a Gmail invitation, or has someone already sent you one, High Max? :p

This is not a signature.
You did not see this.
It was all a dream.
You will not tell anyone about this.

Now go and read this signature again.

So, you actually bothered to scroll down, eh? If you're that bored, you might as well take a look at the links above.

It's not you can only get it through invitation or through a cell phone that has text messaging (which mine doesn't)

*Laughs* That Subspace smiley rules. And Gmail's not that hard to get. Especially when some of us have 100 invites.

Oh yeah, I remember that. :) Anyone got a link to the thread?  Search is b0rked right now.

I've added it as :warp:.  If you guys think it should be named something different, let me know. ;)

While we're on the subject, does anyone have the one somebody made with a personal beam cannon?  It was just like this: except it ended with the guy on the right beaming the other guy. :nervous:

For clarification, the subspace smiley is :warp:

I would say look at sectorgame with its bazillion smilies, except that you apparently got the "template" for the beam smiley from there already.

EDIT: On search.  Is there any reason that for certain keywords (contest, for example) I can't get any results newer than 2001?  In fact, other than hits from the last week or so, ANY search only returns results from late '01/early '02.

It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

The search index got borked, and when we went to rebuild it, it screwed that up too.  It's either a timeout problem or a Gamespy password problem.  Styxx could fyxx it, but he's got his own stuff to worry about.

That'd explain it then.

It'd be nice to have Grognards access so I could stay abreast of these issues and not ask the stupid questions :nervous:
