Because I got some energy back I will be starting more single shot conversions of both established stuff and model dump materials that has been accumulating on my drive the past few years.

After my successful Death Glider conversion (thanks to Daaan), I felt confident enough to go back and finish off one of Getvetter Lar's old models. Remember I dubbed it the Mamba and made it a Fast Strike Carrier for my Goa'uld offshoots?

Anyway, here is the unfinished file cause there is an error... Both modelview and PCS convert it wrong, it is upside down and turned 90 degrees!!! In TS it looks fine but converts wrong? I've got no freaking clue why. I tried re-orienting it to fix the problem but it still converts wrong. Can this be salvaged?

ok rotate the ship 90 degrees in truespace this problem always happens.  as far as it being upside down...i am clueless, convert it after turning it the 90 in TS, and if it still isn't right, well you get the picture.

ok by causes crash do you mean that it disappears?  Try checking the mass, if it has a mass of Zero, it causes problems as soon as it takes damage.

Nice work, there.  I wonder how it would look with different textures, if you're planning such a thing.  Acquired! :)

I tried all taht and it failed to even turn no matter what facign in TS it always converted facing RIGHT and was upside down... So I gave up and posted the file.

Ok in light of the corruption I guess I need to slow down, this one is the Zaku from Gundam as I will not be done anytime soon as a mod...

Model 06 basic Zaku one cannon... Make your own table. I just finished angling the thrusters...

You will need to get used to the off center firing on mechs, but hey that's all part of the fun!

[edit]  my take onteh 83-Gun Cannon,  couldn;t convert with the shoulder cannons (both pcs and modelview failed first titme around)

Has a minor erro,r but hopefully that can be overlooked.. Enjoy!

Shadowwolf, it takes damage but I meant when it ecplodes causes crash (I have quite a few conversions liek that) with and without shields...  Thing is before I added a shield it worked fine (it was omni's connie release unshielded and unarmed.)

Grrrrr went back to an old conversion attempt... made into pof, textures/glows ready.   Added original cob unshielded and with shield though not armed! Was testing in game first before arming it and in techroom caused crash. Showed up in fred though so I knew not to bother loading mission.

Orion Pirate Sortex - From Nolani Industires, cargo ship/personal transport refitted into a lightly armed predator by the syndacate.

Was planned to be a player small cruiser/large gunship with either turrets or gunpoints with possibly a second non-player version with only turrets.

what are you using to convert it?

If you are using pcs, then you have to rotate the model 90 degrees in TS before converting.

i don't what the other problems could be caused by.

what I always use:  #1 PCS , when that fails go to  Modelview, if that fails I used to go to high level cob to pof but when editing later it often caused masive corrution on occasion on my files so I stopped using that program.

Here is your Mamba thingey, your axes were messed up,and wouldn't let me change them due to some animation thing? So, I unglued everything, and put a new axes on it, this should be right, at least I think  this is the side that looks to be the top. ;) Tell me if there is problems.

Now I can see what's up. I had some texturing issues cause of the geometry (it was an unfinished model anyway) But I hope this will inspire some SG people regardless... I appreciated it weather, had no idea about the axis, next time I will erase all info about that if I run into a similar situation...

Yay my FIRST (ok second) model...

It's made and textured, now I'm overwhelmed... I need to spread the two middle arms up and downward respectively about 15 degrees and then the ends closing again 15 degrees..

 \/     It's not THAT servere an angle, but you get the idea. Like a clamp but it's not closed. A beam fires from the inner base wall in between the arms...  If you can guess what it is or why cool for you, but keep it hush for now...

Textures are placeholders only, will try a scheme I have in mind or will simply get it retextured later from a screenshot (or beter yet re-modeled).

Thanks for the attempt Trayus. Blackening the non-transparent green works but it still blots out some stars in a bit squarish way...

It is workable though... Plus I found you can't make a image no matter how High Res more than div 6/6 otherwise it deforsm way too much to be enjoyable to look at (for those not knowing the Earth shown is 2048x2048 Nasa pic)... This is just a background pcx, NOT a model... Some of us are low tech :P




I appreciated the effort!

   Wanted to ask this question all day at work but forgot I was so tired...

   IF I'm converting a model with say 60 textures with NO way of trimming more off (like started with 100, is there a way I can COMBINE texture maps to lower the number of maps needed?? I think you need to get them around 49 or 41 or lower right?  I got dozens of models with permission to convert but they have insane numbers of textures (like from Klingon Academy)...

You're welcome. :) Just say the green aura remaining is atmospheric disturbance if you need to explain it away.  On a side note, what is THAT in the pic? That ship looks awesome!

If that question was directed at me, I'm sorry.  I really don't know jack about texturing, just changing textures in ModelView, which doesn't take much effort.  I have come up with interesting results, sometimes. Again, sorry I can't help with that one. Maybe try asking StratComm or TrashMan or one of those guys?

Try 12.  Textures are your enemy in terms of Freespace conversions.  As for combining them, that depends entirely on what program you're using to convert them.  Max's Texture baking works pretty well from what I understand (mine's broken for some unexplained reason) and I think Lightwave has something similar.  Truespace, on the other hand, does not.

To Startcomm:  IC thanks a lot!  (Let's "pretend" I have a copy of lightwave and will look up tutorials then).. Baking as in cookies.. got it...


To Trayus:  Oh that? That's the Original Gundam Albion (white Base). It's not ready yet I just like showing it off. As for the Earth, I can re-blacken the ring by editing the original. I made that pcx by circle cropign the better Earth with photoshop and pasting it over the old in game Earth pic. I guess I was a little off. Regardless, it didn't work and the green was no longer transparent Minor annoyance...
