I was thinking about a few things:


1.) At first the new Cylon Raiders seemed to be really deadly. They are fast, super-manueverable, really fast firing rate, can launch lots of missilse at multiple targets, etc. But, they seem less and less effective as the show goes on. Is it just because Galactica's pilots have adapted to them?

Effectiveness aside, I think it is super cool how they are launched from the Basestars.


2.) In episode 2x01, what is that thing that runs into Galactica? I haven't seen episode 2x04 or 2x05 (they have seemingly disappeared from the net, if anyone has any links to a torrent you are welcome to PM me).

3.) I've also been thinking about Galactica's effectiveness against other capital ships. It's defenses seem to be rather flak-centric (meaning that they are mostly anti-fighter), but what does it use to shoot at Basestars? I can't remember seeing it shoot missiles at them......


4.) What happened on Kobol? Why did the 13 tribes originally leave? Why did the people who were left die out?

5.) Who or what are "the Gods"? Are they just highly evolved, super advanced beings (like the First Ones in B5)? Will we ever find out the answers to this question and the one above this question?

Prolly just that. the human pilots skill are beginning to form and they're also getting a good feel for their fighters so they'll prolly be able to fight more efficiently and expend less ammunition. combat losses will still be the same though..out of the sheer numbers that are the cylons.

I'm not good with the Episode numbers, but are you talking about when they got boarded?

i think your only seeing flak because the galactica hasn't gotten very close to a base star thats' prolly why we've never seen it fire whatever other ammo it's got.

"The Gods" = The Bastards in the bright white ship Crystal thing, but that's only my opinion.

The new Cylon Raider is not a true fighter like the Viper, but more a missile-platform, so while it may seem more maneuverable, the Viper likely has the edge with a good pilot behind it. Also, without the distinct advantage of being able to shut down the other fighters with Electronic Warfare (which Galactica's Vipers are not succeptible to), the Raider has thus lost most advantages save sheer numbers.

The thing that crashed into Galactica's flight pod was what they refer to as a Heavy Raider. This is more of a transport than a true fighter, able to carry a large number of Cylon Centurions to battle, but retaining a reasonably powerful forward array of machine-guns. This particular Heavy Raider carried a small strike force of Centurions into Galactica which gave it hell in ep. 2x02. This class will appear reasonably often from then on.

I have no idea if Galactica has any armament other than cannons - the large guns seen on top of Galactica - backed up by a formidable force of Flak guns situated on Galactica's flanks. It is possible that Galactica might serve as a heavy-missile platform in launching Nuclear Weapons, but due to Galactica only possessing a few, they're likely saving those for... a special occaision

Unknown, so we'll just have to wait and see. Although, there's been considerable conjecture as to the 13th Lord of Kobol being the Cylon's 'God' that Six refers to, but I can't really comment on that.

Again, unknown. We'll just have to wait for the second half of season 2, or whenever the hell RDM wants to explain it all.

Really ludicrous question I'm the 13th tribe and abandoning Kobol... I tell everyone to frak themsellves cause we are "headed to a planet we are gonna call Earth to colonize it" note this was 2000 years ago... If they already had a name for it chance are they already KNEW about it. Either it was colonized WAY before the 2000 year mark or they were in contact with natives of Earth.(glaring plot inconsistency)


I bet these were the Atlantians. Advanced humans who came to Earth to settle and got smacked down... like Pompeii  All we got left of the Kobolian colonists are legends (and inaccurate ones to boot).

Only a complete DNA analysis would show Earthling's 4 million year development (as humanoids in form, not talking about hundreds of millions before that as retiles and fish and protazoa) native to Earth and the relatively "recent" addition of new genes into the human genome from Kobolian refugees.

(Kinda freaked me out when I learned we all get gills and a tail durign the gestation period in the womb, we go through all the stages of EVOLUTION from what we came from when out great ancestor aeomeba(SP?)/primordial goo said, "it sucks to be single cell, Lets evolve so I can order chinese!")

Helo was participating in an elaborate ruse to get him to fall in love with and impregnate C-Sharon. Thus, any Centurions he encountered were meant to be taken out.

As for the thirteenth colony/Earth, the series seems to be hinting that Earth is where the BSG humans originated (which makes sense, since we have a fossil record here and all). After all, how could there be a map of the colonies on Kobol, from the perspective of Earth, if Kobol hadn't been abandoned yet?

as for galactica's armament, didnt the other landing pod have a decommissioned laser coil in it? they also seemed to have a few nukes.

The old galactica did have two long range laser cannons in the bow that were never really used  (maybe once)... It was the colonial answer to the Mega Pulsars on base ships.. Why can't the new one have them also, just not occasion to use them (ie decommissioned).


Helo's Cylons could have been refitted with tin or aluminum plating to lure him into a false sence of power. men with delusions of granduer are more confident in bed.

Helo did knock one or two out with his pistol, but his shot placement was very precise: he hit them in the visor, at very short range (under 5 feet). The range obviously helps penetrative power of the shots: the location is also obviously one of the less armored spots. This isn't a luxury most folks dealing with Centurions have, I imagine.

On the subject of Galatica having some kind of main battery to go with her AAS guns...perhaps she doesn't need one? The AAS mounts are probably antimissile capable as well, and so far as we know the Basestars have nothing but missiles. Flak deals with that until Galatica gets close enough to maul a Basestar at short range via sheer rate of fire. Or nukes.

I always assumed the big cannons on the top (and presumably bottom) of Galactica were some sort of big railguns that could put a shot through a Cylon Basestar...if they got into range anyways.  I don't think they have had the opportunity.

Hopefully we'll see the Pegasus do some damage to a Cylon something sometime too

Considering that Galactica was in the process of being decommisioned, the main guns may have been removed or disabled prior to going into museum. Possibly they will be able to bring the main guns online later and if the original series is being used as a basis, that would make the Galactica a helluva lot more dangerous.

Maybe that's why they haven't done it yet, the series suits the 'underdog' approach still atm. I suspect you are far more likely to see the Pegasus let loose on a BaseStar than the Galactica.

they probibly have lasers, they just arent that effective on a small scale as high explosive ammunition is. im just sad that they dont have gatling guns
