The beginning of another day....
In 2367, the Shivans came to us again.  This time there was no stopping them.  Our missions were simple, our goals were clear, and yet still, here we are, adrift in the middle of nowhere, with no place to call home.  What would have happened if we'd remained behind.  Would we be dead too?  Would we be part of a flourshing civilization?  Would we be as forgotten as the Ancients?  We all knew what we might have to face, and still we made our choices and came together to survive.  What remains of our home?  Some still wonder what it looks like, but for the most part, everyone is now wrapped up in the present.  We all have jobs to do, but our mission remains simple; to survive.  If we fail, we'll be as forgotten as those who came before us.  2367.  Such a long time ago.

This day, like most days for the past 4 years, will be unique and filled with intrigue.  What will we find today.  Will we find what we've been searching for all these years?  Will we find something better, worse?  Will we find death awaiting us?  I can't think about that; I must set an example for everyone else.  I have to lead with an iron will and a cold heart.  Still, when I sit in the mess hall with a hot cup of coffee and look out over the stars, I wonder what became of our beloved world.  Will they come looking for us eventually, or will we find them.  I guess we'll never know.

Well, it's off to the bridge for me.  Too many decisions to make today, but it's my responsibility.  Like Admiral Jacobson said to me before he retired, "Your job won't be easy.  There'll be nobody to give you advice.  You'll have to decide who lives, who dies.  Mistakes are not an option.  There are nights you won't be able to sleep.  The only good thing that drives you is fullfilling your duties.  Make that your top priority and you'll make it through."  It's still good advice.

mistake 1. Too many decisions today to make today. (should leave out the first "today")

mistake 2. May 1, 2389. (fours years after 2367 is 2371)

i'm not trying to be mean or critical. i liked it alot and think it's very well written, which is why i made those corrections. so it would be perfect. if i didn't like it i woundn't have said anything.

The beginning of another day....
Sometimes I hear stories from the the vets.  How the Shivans came and wasted everything in their path.  They tore through our toughest fleets like nothing, and they kept comin.  They just kept comin!!!  Without any fear at all.  I was too young to remember those times.  I can't even fathom what those people must've gone through, knowing that death was so near.  I'm convinced that nothing could've survived that onslaught.  Nothing could have saved those that chose to stay and fight.  So all that's left of them are us, the few who wander the stars looking for a place to call home.

Admiral Nevek has assured us that we are near our objective.  He's a good commander and an even better liar, but I don't blame him.  To the civilians, he's a sign of hope, a sign that the worst times are behind us.  I know better.

Damn, I think I'll go get a snack.  Then maybe a stroll.  Night watch starts soon.

Not to steal yer spotlight, but I'm in fanfic mode today...

"When the Shivans first came, we were unprepared. Weak. Divided. Indecisive. They slaughtered us like lambs, and had we not gotten our act together that would have been the end of Terra and our race. But we survived, and we learned. War made us powerful. And when the Shivans struck again, they paid dearly for their mistake.

Now we are greater than ever. For years a tiny, lonely star surounded by a battling race, today we stand masters of all we see, more powerful than any foe ever encountered. Except for ourselves. Now, with no enemy remaining, we turn our guns upon each other. The Vasudans were the first to fall. Then the GTVA loyalists. And all the while, the void of space and the evil it holds have been waiting for us to weaken ourselves beyond the point of return... biding it's time... and I fear it won't be long before that time has come..."

I noticed. I don't have FS1, and there's a limit to what you can do w/ canon (even his are not STRICTLY canon- there is absolutely nothing in the canon plot about the migration in the first one. So, I make my own, tailor it to fit other projects I've done to save effort, and have more fun than if I stuck to canon. Besides, does canon really explain ANYTHING at all? Or leave any room for strict derivative works?

I came up with some of them while working on a new project.  They do have some basis in "reality" though    Stryke, I thought yours was pretty good.  It shows Terran Arrogance to the 10th power

They have a right to be arrogant. A few years after the Sol-Serpentis node is sealed, I have the Shivans open up a new node to Sol and send in their fleet- the Terrans kick the fleet's ***  and then steal about a dozen new systems from the Shivans before they run into a dead end- the Sol Terrans had a lot of practice beating each other up after the Great War.

It's those damn kids.  They did it again.  Why do they keep swiping from that Ellisons' fruit stand.  It's not like.....never mind.  Man, I always get stuck with afternoon market duty.  Geez, doesn't the Captain think I can handle anything more difficult.  Rookies are getting more exciting jobs than me.  What is wrong with this picture.  It's like what happened will never go away.  Why can't he just let the past be the past.  I should be treated like a hero, not like this.  I mean, I was one of the few who survived that encounter.

Are you referring to the Incursion of....

Whatever you want to call it, it was the biggest scare of my life, but I lived.  I don't even like remembering that day.  It chills me to the bone.  I can't stand it.
