I've been following those guys ever since Popular Science did a story on the X-prize a while back...
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Meh, make it cheap enough to be usefull, then we'll see.

And make it use less fuel, it's a pure waste of energy, as far as I care. Same goes for the ISS. Sure, it's cool for science, but it's too expensive to do anything usefull, and the energy costs are through the roof.

I'll assume that you can back that up with figures, so I'll just remind you that the X-Prize winner is a technology demonstrator, not a production model

Most of the other entrants are still on the drawing board. Kazan made a big fuss about one of the teams, but their website had nothing more substantial than artists' concepts. Burt is sending his entry into space this month. So you can see why he's the media darling :)

There's a Canadian team that is in a close second.  Not sure on what their current status was but it was looking very strong.
