Shinemaps 2.0 - Fighters & Bombers release
Okay, as I'm going to do capships now, here's a packed up version of the fighters & bombers that i've finished (i'll go along finishing those coming in from DaB and Turambar).

This build contains maps for all FS1 fighters & bombers playable in FS2, as well as some extra FS2 fighters. I've converted all the base textures to maximum quality JPG, to save some download size.

The zip and the previews are also available on Milliways.

When u say, "some extra fs2 fighters" does that mean you've covered only a few of the fighters and bombers from fs2 or that you've done every fighter/bomber in fs2?

Plus, u just throw these into your mod folder?

Best thing to do with these is to build a vp with them and stick it in your main folder with a name like sparks.vp that comes as close to sparky_fs2.vp as possible.

Second best thing is to throw them into FS2/data/maps so that any mod can use them.

Safest thing you can do is to put them into your mod dir. That way there is no risk of a clash but it does mean that only that particular mod can use them. With the first two you risk the possibility of getting a clash with another mod  or finding that retail FS2 chokes on them.  (It's a very remote possibility with texture names though so I wouldn't worry about it too much)

Only those Fs2 ships that were done by DaB - so not all of the FS2 fighters are in.

You copy the files into your /data/maps dir.

great stuff, Lightspeed, and apologies in advance for the noob question i'm about to ask.

does Shine 2.0 contain all the files within Shine 1.1c, or do i have to install both packs?

Exits are to the sides and rear. Personal flamethrowers are located under the seats, but they're probably full of  soda right now. Don't go crawling through the air vents as they're infested with Shivans. However, if you do encounter any Shivans, it's just Carl. Give him your lunch and run away. Plasma rifles are located in the lockers up front. However these can only be opened by [V], God, an Admin, or a hyperintelligent shade of the color blue. Do not try to enter the control room as it is guarded by subspatial claymore mines. Thank you, and enjoy your stay!

Wow Lightspeed, you've just joned the community and already you have put out a great shinemap pack. I wish all newbies were like you. I hope we get some more stuff from you in the future.

And why is it that no one puts the requisite text to accompany the beams anymore? I tried searching for it a few days ago, but it hasn;t been used in so long, all I managed to get was a semi-changed version. Someone ought to put the proper text in the wiki.

Yeah you still need both packs. Shine2.0 *will* contain all the files, but this release here contains but a small fraction of the final work.

As i'm going through an individual texture upgrade this time it takes uncomparatively longer than what I did back then.

*Shinemaps for all FS2 vessels
*New Thruster Effects
*Lightspeed-Bobboau Thruster hybrid effects
*High definition planets replacing the V originals
*New weapon effects for primaries + new shivan weapons
*An animated glowmap for the Pegasus
*SCP explosion upgrade
*New nebula background images for use in missions
*SCP hi-res suns
*New Subspace textures
*Shinemaps2.0 with alpha env support / Glowmaps / Texture upgrades for various fighter sized vessels

This is what i've done so far IIRC.

Yes, and the special reward to those who downloaded each individual zip is, they have the TGA base textures, and not JPG versions.

While looking exactly the same (as I used maximum quality settings), in theory, they have lower res versions :p

hehe... i can honestly say that's the warmest welcome i've ever received anywhere :D  thank you. and thank you, Lightspeed, for your answer.

actually, i've been lurking at HLP for the past couple of months. a long long time ago, i saw a game called Freespace 2 in the bargain bucket at the local games store. i'd read somewhere that it was good, so i picked it up. unfortunately, on getting it home i put it down for what must be... oh, a good three years.

fast forward to a few months ago when there was a giant thread about FS" on the Something Awful forums. remembering i had a copy i dug it out, and started browsing through the overwhelming amount of mods out there, not to mention the icing on the cake that is the SCP :thepimp:

anyhow, with everything seeming to happen at once - the new build released, and the new launcher, and the new shinemaps - i figured it was high time to stop lurking :)

Lightspeed - He was being sarcastic when he said he wasn't being sarcastic, I believe. Either that, or he's vastly misinformed, considering you aren't exactly a noobie, being here almost a full year going by your reg date.

Ya know... I don't remember getting a 'Welcome to the HLPBB' post... Then again, I did lurk for most of the time, and still do. And I regged a long time ago, so my memory could definitely be faulty... Meh, doesn't really matter... *goes to search old posts*

EDIT: Nope, never did get one of them.
