Models of stuff from a book
A good friend of mine has undergone the task of writing a book series (8-10 books in total) And he has requested that I...help out...somewhat...

He wants me to model the ships for his book, so the readers can actually see what they look like from different angles.

And the beauty of this...most of the stuff will be published :D:D:D

First off, a size comparison, nearly identical to the one found in the first book:

(Top to Bottem:
Genesis (bad guys) Colonizer *200 missile tubes
ENS (good guys) Orion *175 gun 1st Rate*
Genesis SuperDreadnought *120 missile tubes*
ENS Cerberus *38 gun 5th rate frigate*
Genesis Battlecruiser *24 missile tubes*)

And finally a beauty shot of the ENS Orion:

Those hatches on the front, rear and sides are for the massive Energy Cannons. there's 75 to a broadside, 15 on the front and 10 on the back.

Now...here's the kicker, I need help to try and get those in game. Anyone want to help out? ;)

Feedback is appreciated.

Cor

The design for the orion thingy could have been a bit more...err...imaginative.
But still, good work on the other designs. I think I'm gonna give this book(s) a read
Carpe Diem Poste Crastinus

Blind people with them..."

"Yah, dude, penises rock." Turambar

FUKOOOOV!

Well...talk with my friend, the designs were his idea...they were based off of a pencil case I think...the ones with the rounded edges...and the Genesis ships are "spear heads"...well..sorta

And, I have a problem...one of the models is damn near impossible for me to reproduce in 3d.

I need a modeler who is able to model...this:

The Krogg SuperDreadnought. A living warship...

Any volunteers?

A whole year to wait? D'oh...

Well, good things come to those who wait. Was it just that design that you produced for this book, or were there others?

Oh, I see. So he's the designer, and you're the... realizer. :D

And by the looks of it, you're going to have to learn some organic modelling nice and quickly if you're to create something that looks like that. :)

Here's a tip for you: I've always found it helpful to think positively about tasks when I set about trying to figure out how to do something new. I know it sounds corny, but I always get stuck more quickly when I think in my mind that there's no way to achieve a particular effect. Just patiently look up resources, spend time wrestling with your modelling program (what do you use?) and be determined to make some progress, however small. :)

No offense to you, (I get that you didn;t design them) but I hope the bad guys win -those good guy ships deserve to be blown out of the sky. :ick:.

Are there fighters in this universe? If so make into an FS2 mod too :D

back in 1988 I screwed around with my own starship designs and also fell into the "Same look but different size" category. From cap ship to shuttle, only the fighters were different. Looks like he has two main designs the rest are based off of.

If I can dig up my old comparasion sheet maybe it would be worth giving a go? (it aint's FS2, but it's sci-fi)..

So he's getting published, that's fricken awesome! Plus taht means you get some artistic credits too!
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection !

Black Wolf: Don't like em' get the hell outta the thread. You don't have any good comments? Don't comment at all. The designs stay...live with it.

Lightspeed: same comment as BW, but add to the fact that you're a perfectionist, meaning that I probably won't be as good as you...all the same...I'm getting published in a year...lots of time to improve by then.

Setekh: I use Cinema 4D, free copy I got from school. I've tried to do that Krogg SD a few times...it doesn't work out all that well...But, I'll get it one day.

Kara:  nah, no fighters...but the Larosians have fighters...and so do the Kroggs...anyways this was going to be a mod for HW2...but...that probably won't happen anytime soon...I'm considering FS2 now...or I'll just stick with small rendered movies.

jdjt: So? :P It's giving you an idea as to what you need when you go up against them (they smashed a fleet 2x the size of theirs)

StarDragon: Indeed, most of his ships look the same, but it's alot easier when modding them, just build one ship, and scale it differently. and yep, I'll get artistic credit too :D

and...:

...Has more renders there...including the old Genesis ships.

Are you going to publish the comics online or... :nervous:

...Comics? What Comics? The books are NOVELS...no pictures...The book I'm going to help on is just going to be some "technical" book...like they have for StarWars, the guide to Starships and what not...stuff like that.
