Well yesterday I decided to pick up a copy of Firefly episode 1, after hearing many, many good things about it. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. It had some odd camera angles but the story seemed pretty typical, almost boring. During the end it seemed to get slightly better
Spoiler:
(The doctor drugging the guy he didn't like, the cap'n kicking the other guy into the engine, and the cap'n returning the stuff and getting ambushed were all enjoyable.)

My question is, should I check out any other eps or is the first episode roughly what the whole series (so far) is like?

I've only seen the first episode myself but I'd be wary about judging any sci-fi series by the quality of one episode.

I missed two whole seasons of B5 because the first episode I ever saw was Infection (which convinced me that B5 wasn't worth watching)

I learned my lesson and kept watching Farscape despite being underwhelmed by the pilot episode. It proved to be a very good decision :D

I never really got all that fired up about FF.  I never understood the premise, beyond the wholly mercenary leanings of the crew and something about the ship being invulnerable somehow.

The ship's not invulnerable. It doesn't even have any weapons.

They're just smart enough never to get into a space-battle. And rightly so. Watch the episode with the Reaver Firefly and you'll understand; The missiles on an Alliance Cruiser are like 1/10th the size of an entire Firefly class ship and you see two shots vapourising the Reaver ship.

And 'episode 1' isn't episode 1.

FOX aired them out of order, which ****ed up continuity and general making-sense-ness.

The one you mean is The Train Job which was like the 3rd ep or somesuch.

The opening 2-parter is called Serenity.

It wasn't a 'Reaver Ship' per say, actually. It was a ship the Reavers boarded.

And, generally, what an0n said.

What made the ship so special then?  I remember something about the ship have something special about it?

Meh, the copy of that I've...found...so far is torture to try and figure out what's happening. All pixelated and the sound's very fuzzy.
