GTVA News - Week of September 7th 2370[/i]
Operation Kuiper has entered its second week now. The explosion in the Asteroid mining colony AV0746 in the Deneb Asteroid Belt killed more than 2,000 Vasudan miners and civilians and wounded a further 11,000. Yerantis A is the second largest Asteroid in the Deneb asteroid belt and has been mined for over 11 years. Investigations last year reported that Yerantis was severely overmined and its structural integrity was reaching critical levels. However, the Vasudan company that owned the mine ignored the warning due to the tremendous profit that had been gained during the many years of mining Yerantis.
A report was issued by the Vasudan investigation team acknowledging the fault was caused by a cave-in over the mining colony's core primary power generator. The resulting explosion and the overmined weak stability of the asteroid caused hundreds of tunnel callapses and breaches in the colony's hull. Some debree that was expelled out from Yerantis from the explosion collided with the asteroid's tiny moon Yerantis B. This natural satellite had a small monitoring station housing 42 Vasudans, all of which suffocated as a debree fragment struck the base causing it to entirely decompress.
The Paethon class medical ships were used for the first time last week to rescue and aid the injured. They have proven to be a valuable new addition to the GTVA Medical Corps. No Hippocrates class medical ships were in the Deneb system during the explosion because of the epidemic in the Altair system. It wasn't until two days ago that the GTM Berowra, a Hipprocrates class ship, made it to the colony. The Berowra transported the remaining survivers to safety. The CEO of the mining colony AV0746 on the Yerantis A Asteroid has been formally charged for neglegence for this incident.

Ever since the beginning of the Capellan refugee crisis, the Galactic Terran Vasudan Alliance has been devising countless strategies to facilitate a home for the massive influx of civilian refugees. Many scenarios have failed and event today there are more than 100,000 homeless Capellans. However, some refugees have taken it upon themselves to build themselves a new home.
It all started when a structural engineer called Marcus O'Conner began thinking that space was endless and that it alone could support an infinite number of people. Spending every last unicredit on a TCS-1 Cargo container, he began work to build a house using the container's structure. O'Conner ended up with a three storey space mansion. After two months, Mr O'Conner received permission from GTVA Command to have his new house positioned in an area of space avoiding major shipping lanes.
It wasn't long before Triton Dynamics offered O'Conner a position as CEO of a new division called O'Conner Stellar Real Estate. Since it's inaugural opening six months ago, O'Conner Stellar Real Estate has sold over 500 new space houses, ranging from the original O'Conner TCS-1 version to the newer O'Conner SREA-100a series, which even incorporate a hanger bay.
The GTVA is impressed with the amount of work O'Conner has achieved is such a short space of time. GTVA Command has awarded Marcus O'Conner for supplying 100 homes free-of-charge to the Capellan regugees. A recent interview with Marcus O'Conner revealed that he was disappointed with the little support that he had made for the Capellan refugees and promises that his long-term goal at O'Conner Stellar Real Estate is to eventually facilitate a home for all Capellan refugees.
