I'll right, for the sake of ease, I'll just stick to one language from now on..

Well, you could always be an emmigrant, like me :D :D

Lucky bastard. I once visited my aunt in Split, and she had access to a beach house right on the coast. The proper beach was literally 2 minutes away, or about 10 big steps away from the front door to get in to the water, if you didn't mind jumping.

I envy you, I'de give anything you be over there right now. The Adriatic  rocks.

You think Split has a nice beach!? Dude, split has one of the better beaces on the Croatian Coast, but they are probably the worst in the local region (Splitsko-Dalamtinska zupanija).
I live 52 km from Split and most places inbetween have better beaches.

Yeah...great beaches, sea and all.... but the weather is acting stranger every year. Hey, if I can see changes in the last 10 years, then it IS serious.
We better gat that Global Warming under control.....

Trash, look. You're not going to live forever. Homo Sapiens are not going to exist for ever. Species come and go. My point about the dinos is that they were around for hundreds of millions of years, and if we manage that we'll have had a great run. You're taking it for granted that today's climate is 'normal' for the Earth. Well it's not. The climate bounces up and down, and nothing we do is going to stop that.

True...but we're changing it at an alarming rate!
And it's not healthy...

ElNino anyone?

Trashman: no no, the place was about 45 minutes outside of Split. I *think* it was called Bratus.

dg: well, yeah, but human activity can/is unlfuencing it. If we take it nice and easy, we may yet have time to develop the technology to live through an ice age. No species on Earth has ever before (as far as we know) come even close to out level of technology. I don't think its implausible to think that some sort of weather techonolgy will show up in the next 50 or 100 years.

except ofcourse HAARP, which the US government is developing/testing as a weapon, and its quite capable of wreaking havok with the climate. Scary stuff, if it is in the hands of lunatics who will use it for destructive purposes, which it is.

Maybe DG. But making the sort of changes in 50 years that usually take 10,000 is not a good idea.

Look, you study planetery science for a few years, you get to appreciate quite how insignificant we are and how ridiculous it is to worry about **** like climate change. Getting wiped out by our own atmospheric effluent would serve us right and be a evolutionary piece of peotic justice. I'm all for cutting polluting chemicals, but in reality the hard link between industry and global warming has yet to be proven.

I don't know about that. All the science I've seen on the matter seems to show it's pretty much case closed.

I'm not saying that everywhere is getting hotter.
I'm saying that the climate is going beserk - and that means both ways..
Rains where it normaly shouldn't in that part of the year, hot when it was supposed to be cold, etc...

The climate is a very sensitive thing and the air masses are influenced by what we do.
As far as I know, human influence has allready caused slight changes in the normal air masss movement patterns - and we have nature showing it's wrath all over the world - from USA, Canada, Brasil, over Europe and Africa, to China and Japan.

I read somewhere that the number of such known disasters (floods, droughts, storms, landslides, etc...) has increased by allmost 40% in the last 20 years and it's increasing exsponentialy!

Now, I don't know if i can trust that number, but I've been watching news and readin newspapers, and I do see such news more often than before, and I see some minor climate changes where I live..

Completely wierd weather is accuring more often, and franky, I am very concerned, especially if one knows that any damage done to the enviroment is visible only after some time.
For instance, the freons you release in the atmosphere today will start to eat awway at the ozon in 7 years.
Which means if the ozon layer became criticly thin and we banned all pollutants, it would still degrade for several years at least!!!:nervous:

Tis an unusually cool June here so far... supposed to get up to a blistering 21 degrees tomorrow, heat up a bit further sunday, and then cool down a bit monday. Bizarre, but you'll not hear any complaints from me. ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
