Re: Best in-game dialogue...
Are they all halo lines?

The Monkey Islands get it hands-down for me. Honourable mention for NOLF and NOLF2, as well as a few others.

Also have to mention Giants: Citizen Kabuto for Baz's immortal words when he gets stranded on the island at the start of the game...

Re: Best in-game dialogue...
First thing that comes to mind are the chilling audio logs of System Shock 2 (for the first time you hear them that is, though, the first log that diego records after he starts to change...  that always makes me shiver..)  Tron 2.0, NOLF, even FEAR has some well-done voice acting.  Monolith's audio dept has been stellar, though thier sound subsystem in thier engines sucks big time.  The other game(s) though that I think had some great in-game dialogue in it would be the Max Payne series.

Re: Best in-game dialogue...
Monkey Island 2 and Deus Ex had some great convos. The voice acting in Deus Ex was really hit or miss though.

I actually quite like the dialogue from Dawn of War as well. It's completely overblown, but it's very entertaining...

The voice acting in Deus Ex was really hit or miss though.

Especially when you visit Hong Kong, with the asian/texan accents!

Re: Best in-game dialogue...
The first two Homeworld games had plenty of good lines.

Spoiler:
"No one's left. Everything's gone. Kharak is burning!"
"Kharak is being consumed by a firestorm. The Scaffold has been destroyed. All orbital facilities destroyed. Significant debris ring in low Kharak orbit. Receiving no communication from anywhere in the system. Not even beacons."

"From the interrogation we learned that a frontier fleet patrolling the borders of a vast interstellar empire was dispatched to destroy our planet. The captain claimed our people violated a 4000 year-old treaty forbidding us to develop hyperspace technology. Extermination of our planet was the consequence. The subject did not survive interrogation.

I loved the guards in Tong's lab. Those sounded like they were voiced by programmers clamping their noses while talking. :D

Some others were great though. Here are a few copied out of the conversation files:

"Whoa-whoa-whoa. Easy 'bro. You don't gotta kill no one."
"Yeah? Who says?"
"Whachu want? I got this LAM. You can HAVE it, man. The Rooks, we're businessmen. We can have a business relationship."
"Just give me the LAM, punk."
"Sure 'bro. Yeah. Take it."
"Some gangbanger. Maybe you should think about going back to school."

"How are the drinks here?"
"Great if you like rat piss."
"Never tried it."

"You just don't give up, do you?"
"What's the matter?"
"Agent Denton is the guy I met in the bathroom."
"Oh...oh...I see."

:D
