Shooty space thingy - give it a go
Not quite on a par with Warning Forever, I feel (I'm still playing that!), but worth a look nonetheless.

A demo is available, so give it a try. :)

If only I knew where to download the full version..... :p

Even though the demo looks interesting, there is no way I am paying 24.95 USD for it.

Edit: Oh yeah, and that's a really descriptive thread title going on their pyro. :p

WHY IN THE **** DO YOU *HAVE TO* POPULATE THE SUBJECT FIELD???
I made the mistake of downloading the Weird Worlds demo this Friday, and it's utterly devoured my weekend.

The close-in combat AI sucks donkey balls though. If they fix that, I could see myself buying the full version. Then making an FS2 mod for it.

Re: Shooty space thingy - give it a go
The AI improves a little bit when you get a better battle tactics module, though.  Sometimes I have to do everything manually to get the best out of the battle.

Critiques:
1. Bigger, badder, and crazier battles would be nice.  I feel like leading an armada, not a scouting party.
2. Would be nice to have money to spend on Terran worlds.
3. I WANT A BIGGER SHIP!!!

Other than that, it's great!

Well, with a little cutting and pasting in the config files you can give yourself any ship in the game. I gave myself that Shivan-looking derelict ship. The subsytems are armored with tin foil but it's strong enough to take out almost anything just by ramming.

Well, I couldn't remember the over-long title at the time, and couldn't be arsed to look it up. :p

I should write a shooty space thingy.  The basics would probably quite easy, too.

*examines*

Without downloading the demo, I think it looks like Star Control 2 in 20 minutes, but that's just what I see right off the bat.

Good ol' SC2...

*runs off to spend another weekend on SC2*
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

That's a pretty accurate assessment. Kind of a mix between Star Control and Escape Velocity. Loot and explore as much of the galaxy as you can in X number of days. Upgrade your ship, hire wingmen, yadda yaddda.

Heck, it's worth the download just to watch the attract mode. Imagine the old Freespace screen saver turned up to 11.

I haven't played SC2 in ages.........

Too bad that it got Freespaced.
