In addition to my other project (FreeSpace 2: Distorted Reality), I am making a 'campaign' where all you do is blow stuff up. It will be like the gauntlet missions in multi-player, except theres missions. I want to know what kind of Missions you want. The ones I made so far is a Orion Vs. Demon, and a Deimos Vs. Moloch. All missions have 1 or more wings of fighters and bombers based on the size of cap. ships. (there will be more fighters in a Destroyer Vs. Destroyer than in a Cruiser Vs. Cruiser.

P.S. the Orion Vs. Demon that I made is set in the first great war, except for shivan bombers (seriphram), I think.

Judging by the amount of posts, I think that you think that this is stupid.

Now why would you conclude that?

We just haven't gotten around to this, is all.

I personally think the idea of massive battles is a little... boring, but if you do it right, like one of the Singleplayer gauntlets, I could go for it as an add-on to another campaign.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

I would like to play a Serious Sam-like campaign. The truth is that the community may not like its monotonity. It is my experience that if you want to release a campaign that you want the community to like, you only need a good, profound story with some characters. Designing the missions can be worse than TERRIBLE, the campaign would still be favoured. Take Derelict for example, it has more bugs in one mission than the FS main campaign combined and multiplied with 3.5. It is still a favoured campaign just because it's story is interesting.

If you write a good plot for it, while keeping the "kill everything"-type missions, you may release a campaign approved by the community.

How much experience do you have in FREDding anyway? Newcomers often make the mistake of starting to do a very ambitious campaign but never finish it. If you do think you will finish both your campaigns, go ahead.

As far as I understood the first post, he does not mention making Battle of Endor-type missions, only ones in which two destroyers fight.

I like it.  You could also do like 3 small caps vs. one big cap, like in X-Wing (corvettes vs. Star Destroyer).
Eddie Guerrero R.I.P. 1967-2005

Yeah actually that's pretty interesting.  Maybe a hell of a lot of Fenris cruisers against say a hecate.

Or a capship you have to protect from several cruisers on impact course to kamikaze.  Maybe have it so 3 cruisers hits would kill it (might end up being 1 or something if they also shoot at it while approaching)

Just some weird interesting things that are never really done.  There's not a lot of instances of several cruisers/corvettes fighting each other in close proximity at once, either.

I like smallcapship battles.  hehe.

And keep in mind this is all while fighters and such are duking it out, too.
how do i shot gun???

Weapons are so different in Star Wars and FreeSpace. I think 4 Fenris cruisers would definitely lose against a Hecate while four Corellian Gunships would take down an ISD.

You could probably play around with Ship Orders and Beam weapons in missions like that

I totally agree with TopAce on the point that if you do this with a good storyline it will work. I am sort-of doing this myself, but it's a bit unbalanced at the moment. Right now it's a battle between a GTCv Deimos, two GTC Aeolus, and 2-3 wings of fighters(which the player commands) verses a SCv Moloch, SC Rakshasa, plus over 6 wings (not including waves, several of them consist of 2 waves) and a bomber wing that comes in two waves.

And the last time I played the mission... the Terran forces desimated the Shivan forces. The most damage any of the Terran ships got was one of the curisers came out with 20% hull, the covette came out with around 50%. I think I might have more Shivan bombers...

Missions like that would be good. Remember that non-complicated, "kill everything" missions can be done rather quickly unless you want to work with an overwhelming quantity of messages or different ending possibilities.

As for me, the most important in a campaign is to have many missions in which you can give in to the temptation of the Dark Side of the Force (:)) and enjoy disembrionating your enemies.

By the way, be careful with the testing. I would like to suggest to optimize for the Medium difficulty and make the mission well-designed in difficulty. If you want to make harder missions, please make sure that if you lose the mission, do it in the beginning of the mission. It can be very annoying if you fail a mission in the last, he tenth minute in the mission.

What I HATE are missions in which you have to jump out in middle of a battle. When you jump, you can't move or equalise your shields. Dying like that is infuriating, to say the least.
I like the missions that are hectic and have a desperate ring to it. The ones where you have to intercept wave after wave of bombers while dogfighting fighters. This is probably an X-Wing induced trauma, don't expect everyone to have it :)

I want a cell-shaded ludicrous fighter mod with hundreds of glowing enemies and the player standing alone.... with a giant gun.

If anyone wanted to FRED/Assist, it'd probably be quite quick to do - cell shaded textures are so simple it's criminal, and cartoony ships are equally easy.
