Was their any point to them at all?

Couldn't there just have been some Sath fuelling Gas Miners to destroy in that SOC mission?

They could have been a great plot development but instead they were only in one mission and were blown up for no real reason.

We've had no access to that Knossos and therefore we couldn't have studied about the techonolugy of the comm. nodes. Our entry in the SOC mission was our first and last entry into the system.

I doubt Sathanases would get fuelled in a communication area. They would probably much rather get fuelled in their own home space. They were probably fuelled beyond Knossos 3 and came into Capella through that system.

Edit: typos.

well, I think shivan ships don't fuel, after all their evolution, they most likely found a way to have infinite energy or something like that.
And, obviously, a comm node i used for communications, no?

because of something else I suppose
They may need it to make the core of their weapons, dunno, much like MASER emiters that uses a gaz mixture in their lense.

Yeah, GTVA had the Prometheus R until they could get the nebula gas to bring back the standard Prometheus.

Anti-fighter mines, of course. Those blades knock away fighters like flyswatters!

Seriously though, I have a feeling that they may have been brought to that area specifically to communicate with Admiral Bosch in some way. The Azrael transport containing Bosch went through that area just a few missions before the SOC wing scouted the area, so they may have been used by the Shivans to talk with Bosch in some way while he was still in the system. (my guess is that he left the binary system through the third Knossos by the time the SOC came there) The GTVA never found out what they really were though (Snipes just calls them objects); the only reason we know that they have something to do with communication is that we have access to FRED2 and ships.tbl.

Whats wrong with the comm nodes? The system beyond the nebula is supposed to be 'exotic' (hence the binary star) so having some exotioc looking object is a good idea. Remember this is probably the first time that we have seen a Shivan held system (not counting the nebula) so seeing a Shivan 'installation' (for want of a better word) is fairly logical

I think binary systems are actually extremely common (lot more binaries in this galaxy than singulars); maybe it's just that the jump nodes the GTVA uses mostly lead to one-star systems. (might have something to do with the gravitational field, since intrasystems jumps are related to that)

Most of the systems in FS are binary(or more).

I think Comm nodes are used for long range comunications something like to boost the signal to other comm nodes so that maby shivan vessels that are like lets say 7 system away can recieve the order to send in more vessels or cargo whatever.

and for gass miners why should the Shivans use them if they don't use fusion drives or other drives that don't need gass to power them. And i don't think Shivans need gass for there beams..

I get the idea that even the terrans can do that. Command seems to always be the same guy. Seems a bit unlikely that he's sent along to every single system that the player gets sent to.

Maybe Commands mother gave birth to 20 children, all indentical who all join the GTVA? Would have been quite a shock to her when the they all kept poping out.

As regards to the gas miner problem, the Lucifer had conventional (in FS-terms) reactors, so why can't the rest of the Shivans? It is a game afterall, and if V wish to say the Shivans have gas miners to power their ships, why can't they?
