Re: Look what I just found.
So, no new gameplay then? Shame.

To be honest, I'm not all that impressed with said screenshots. It's the classic law of diminishing returns. Especially as we know both consoles will be pretty much identical in performance in that sense, and all it amounts to is a pissing match.

I think we would be seeing the leap everyone expects from next-gen stuff if the standard resolution had stayed the same. That's really the key difference between this next-gen of consoles and every previous gen.

Re: Look what I just found.
Thank you Deepblue, your ability to hijack a game thread, and turn it into an MS pimp thread, never ceases to amaze me.
Yet you just linked to something showing off pretty graphics?
Oh whoopty ****ing doo.  The graphics were impressive, but does that mean I can't refer to the incredibly improved sounds, vastly improved AI, and ridiculously improved amount of cars on the track?  Even an MS fanboy like you should know that CGI quality does NOT trump everything else.  No offense, really, but that comment makes you sound like a total dip****.
[/rant off]
And as for fighting and racing, the game Whiplash comes to mind.  Used to be one of the funnest DOS games I've  played.  However, the idea of killing all the other cars to win sort of killed the idea of racing along with it.  It may be fun for some, but I can't see how Twisted Metal combined with GT would work.  Perhaps Twisted Metal with Burnout would, but that would be too arcadish for a genuine racing game.

EDIT: and Deepblue, that moto game sure looks nice.  I'll give you that one.

Um, well I've not seen it from the HD gameplay I've seen either (in store demos).  Hence diminishing returns; you have double the polygons on a PGR3 car or so, stitching,  higher resolution textures, etc, but all that actually amounts to is filler that is incidental at best.  I don't think the next gen will really make all that much of a leap in realism, at most it'll up the numbers a bit on, say, number of particles onscreen or soforth.  but if you take, say, that moto screenshot above, in normal play it will look pretty much identical to current generation games.  Just perhaps a tiny bit sharper - if you have a £1000 telly.

Did you not see the :p at the end of "Bring it, Deepblue!" (Translation: I am kidding, I don't really want you to hijack this thread and bring in games that aren't relevant), or are you just trying to make yourself look stupid at my expense?  And do you honestly believe that comment you made about graphics didn't deserve the flame?

Jeez...

Re: Look what I just found.
You are of course correct. Which is why the Revolution will be fine on standard TVs. However, I have a $1000 telly I would like to put to good use.

Becuase graphics are more important than gameplay?  Because the implication is that the Revolution would be inherently a 'bad use' for an HD TV, which is patently bollocks unless you're referring to graphics alone.  Of course, IIRC the PS3 has better HDTV support (offhand higher resolution output and more digital output options) than the Xbox360, so would you now recommend that?

I thought the raspberry smiley would be enough to indicate sarcasm.  Communication error FTW.

And yes, talk about polar personalities.  I think you would be as pissed as I am if you were in a very bad mood to begin with (personal matters, wont go into it), and then someone makes a comment directed at you, that is completely lax of inteligence...  "Yet you just linked to something showing off pretty graphics?".  That line pushed me a tad over the edge, and if I came off as being overly harsh, I apologise.  But my statement stands, that was a stupid thing to say.

I'm sorry for this, but I findly found some of the screen shots of PGR3 that really communicate how amazing this game looks...

I don't have a 1080p telly and I don't know anyone who does, not to mention the fact that I can't think of one PS3 game with a 1080p target resolution so it's all the same to me.

I plan on getting the Revolution.

1080p isn't commonly widespread, but there are some LCD TVs that natively support 1080p, but the price tag attached to these are not worth the feature.  However, most people speculate that in a couple years, the affordability of 1080p displays will be much more reasonable.  Sony is capitalizing on that idea, so I think it's not a bad marketing gimmick to include support for it.

EDIT:  I really need to go to sleep.

So in other words you immediately negate your arguement for the Xbox360s graphical ability vs modern PCs, as soon as an equivalent greater than arguement is made for the chief competitor?  'PS3 has higher res, thus higher res is meaningless' to paraphrase?  Somewhat hypocritical, davinchy-kerr?

And why the screenshots?  What exactly do statics that will never be seen in the gameplay convey?  that you can render-stroke-photoshop and selectively pick nice pictures?

NB: I think part of sony focusing on 1080p is in order to better use blu-ray, i.e. the sort of idea of the PS3 acting as a trojan horse for getting that format to be the main player (and also to boost the PS3s attractiveness as the main player).  I wouldn't be surprised if MS release an HD DVD 360 with support for that same format (i.e. digital video outs as appropriate), although IIRC their own guidelines restrict the target resolution of games to be somewhat lower.

If you can't go faster than the speed of sound it's not a racing game as far as I'm concerned :p

I think more raceing games should include weapons, nothing would be more fun than after winning enough cash you have to chose, should I get a bigger engine, or a few RPGs...

You should've played Vigilante 8 (and it's sequel) on the original PS. It's a blast, to say the least! Tis a pity it never came out on the Xbox - would pwn any other car game out there right now when it came to sheer, utter fun and hilarity. :D

oh yeah...forgot about Death Rally too! A 3D Version of that would be an excellent, excellent game if made right.
