Hey guys

I happened to find out about FS2_open from a friend and decided to install FS2 again... But It seems to have a problem with my soundcard... it randomly crashes if I have the sound enabled... with the SCP and without it

My sound card is a built in C-media AC97

anyone else have this problem?

What sound-system did you set in the Launcher?
What build are you using?
Are you using some or all of the MediaVPs?

Oh... And can someone give him the "standard-welcome-speech"? ;)

I think we need to solve this problem with retail first before we start introducing FS2_Open to the mix.

Did the crashes with retail only occur after you installed the SCP or did you install them both at the same time and never check FS2 Retail BEFORE you installed FS2_Open (cause if you only checked retail afterwards something like mv_music.vp could very easily cause you crashes).

I'm having this problem with recent CVS builds.

My laptop has Conexant AC-Link Audio and refuses to run any FS2 Open builds with the sound enabled most of the time, it used to run fine. My desktop has Realtek AC'97 and seems to be running ok right now but used to randomly crash.

I can run the CVS builds but it always crashes during mission loading. Disabling the sound via the laucher allows the mission to load on my laptop.

What happens if you just disable the music and not the sound? What happens if you run FS2_Open without the media.vps at all.

Lets see if we can figure out if the problem is caused by the new media or not. :)

Same thing happens.

I don't use the FS Open media vps, I only run Inferno.

I used to have problems with extreme stuttering (but not crashing) with EAX enabled on retail (never tried it on SCP, and this is a different computer anyways).  What sound settings are you using/have you tried FolCan?

Well the built in card says it supposts A3D and Eax so I tried both of them before and after installing the SCP.. but the crashing only stopped if I disabled sound completely

and im using the 3.6.8 VP files I think... and a CVS from redmenace 20051208

and with the SCP I tried disabling just the music but it still crashed... the game doesnt run slow or anything

What happens if you run the debug build? I suspect that unless you need newer drivers that this is something that'#s going to need to be fixed in code.

when I run it in Debug mode as I choose the pilot it crashes with this error

after I tried debug mode I played with the sound on again for a few missions without crashing

I then pressed X to launch countermeasures which crashes it...

So i reloaded the mission and played again... and soon as I press X it crashes..

just some more strange things
