Re: Not Another Computer Thread
haha, I just finished testing my new machine and was thinking of creating yet another of these threads. :D I guess everyone upgrades at this time of the year.

Anyway, pretty much any 939 motherboard will support X2s with an appropriate BIOS. What exactly are you looking for in a motherboard?

As for power supplies, don't get that first one you posted, but the other one is pretty good. Although I would suggest this or this instead, which are server class PSUs for great prices. If you want something a bit nicer looking with similar power, this is also good but they seem to have jacked up the price in the last few days.

Re: Not Another Computer Thread
Abit AN8 Ultra or similar. Absolutely fantastic mainboard. It has a wide variety of overclocking options in the BIOS, too.

Either that or one of the newer high-end Asus boards, but nearly every Socket 939 mainboard produced in the last 6 months has X2 support after a BIOS update.

Re: Not Another Computer Thread
Well what I would like is
Native Command Queing
4GB max memory capacity
Plenty of SATA 2.0 ports.
SPDIF Audio port
Plenty of USB ports
Variety PCI Express Slots
Some PCI Slots
Future Expandibility is very important

Re: Not Another Computer Thread
Sorry a third post. Here is are many review of Power Supplies at Full Load. They even tell you what connectors they have. Alright, one last question. Will the Antec PSU be able to handle an X2 with out the EPS conduit thinger?

Most boards have all of that except the 4GB thing, which is a little tricky to get working on boards without registered memory and won't work on 32-bit XP. My suggestions would be roughly any higher end MSI one for high quality onboard sound and anything from the DFI Lanparty line for overclocking.

For maximum expandability, you may also want to look at the Asrock M1695 board, since they are supposed to come out with a cheap M2/DDR2 riser card for it once that platform comes out. They've done this with some of their other boards and it works very well.

Easily, it's a lot more than needed. The EPS connector is used on three new high end consumer motherboards, but is reportedly not necessary except for extreme overclocks. Although I would just get a PSU that comes with that anyway, if more boards start to require that in the future. The three I mentioned earlier all have this connector.

Re: Not Another Computer Thread
my x2 4800 / 7800 / 2x hdd/ 2x cdrom/ all works fine with a crappy 450 watt power supply given to me secondhand by a friend. X2s use less power than most processors suprisingly, despite them being dual core. From my experience with these X2's, I wouldnt sweat choosing a PSU too much....
