Cool FX Carl, though I don't remember the SD Lucifer blasting a lightning bolt onto Vasuda Prime.

Awesome, dude! All it needs now is that eerie close-up pic of the Shivan face in some of the unused   pics. Hehehe

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Funny, while I was away, I wanted to post about that. On the command briefing, we clearly see that the beam that fries that city is white/blue (otherwise I'm colourblind lol). So it can't be the main Luci beams... What's the weapon shivan used?

That looks pretty nice.

Oh and yes Venom, that occurred to me once or twice in the past - I think I know one possibility. In space, the beam is an orange hue - but under atmospheric conditions (like so many other things), the SSL's appearance changes, taking on a bluey-white colour. Possible...

..... as it ionized the air and emits Cherenkov radiation, which is blue.

that would only happen if it traveled faster than light does in air.

And who says it doesn't?  After all, it's what makes up the beam that's important, not the beam itself.

Question: So was the planet completely destroyed? or just rendered uninhabitable,if not, are vasudans back on it?

A lightning or electrical arc also appears blue within an atmosphere.  If the super-duper planet buster gun on Lucy is a particle beam then the following law applies (don't remember the name of it , dammit! must be getting old).

"...Any group of charged particles travelling in the same direction through another medium will behave as an electric current..."

Yikes!  Can you just imagine what that sucker would do to the planet's powergrid (ignoring the hellish devestation wrought by the release of terrawatts of energy on the planet itself).  Any part of the planet NOT flattened would be reduced to stone age existance anyway.

If I remember the command briefing corrently, the planet itself was not destroyed, but intense radiation from the bombardment rendered the vast majority of the surface completely uninhabitable.  It was not my impression that this had changed by the time of FS2 (it's only been 32 years, how long was it postulated it would take the Earth to recover from a nuclear war?  Over a hundred?)
I told you that It would be done by November, well, mostly anyway...

I'm working on something new... shhhhh, it's a seceret.

It was rendered uninhabitable by the Lucifer. The Vasudan capital is now Aldebarran. (They had to pick somewhere!  )

No. Vasudans evolved from an aquatic species (or if they didn't, they damned well look like they did) and so much of Vasuda prime was a semi-ocean world.

Or am I talking rubbish?

Vasudans, your input please!

Vasuda was a mostly desert world, but obviously had SOME water, or a species would have a hella hard time evolving there.

According to FS1, there was some toxic water plans on Vasuda. I always wondered how the vasudan could have evolved on that. Toxic water, even for vasudan standards, it is said... So were did they take water?
