Orbital Bombardment of Vasuda Prime
Jabu's right, evolution is Hella hard when there's no water. One theory is (for life on Earth) that the first life was single-celled (obviously), and fed off the nutrient-rich mineral flows coming out of mid-atlantic ridges.

These came together, formed multi-cellular animals - then some realised that there was energy to be had from the sun, and the communities developed photosynthesis over millions of years. After that, plants could grow onto the shore from the sea - and animals came a long time after, also from the sea. Eventually, the animals too realised that there was food and energy to be found elsewhere - this time not from the sun, but from the onshore plants. So from fish to amphibians to full-blown air-breathing creatures, we got our first land animals. And then came the Vasudans, who wuv the fishies.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. if you read the   FSRB, Vasudans lived like the Fremen in Dune...  minus the Shai-hulud...

If the GTVA wanted to funnel money into re-opening the Sol node, it would probably annoy the Vasudans a wee bit  - So I reckon if it was to happen, they'd probably invest the smae anmount of resources in Terra-forming Vasuda Prime, to appease the vasudans.

I haven't actually got to the bit where Lucy destroys Vas Prime, though - I'm at the mission where you have to try and capture one of the Shivans fastest, most agile fighters on an attack on a fighter repair depot.(bloody idiotic, if you ask me).

Actually, doesn't it strike you as a bit odd that a species that can blow up 10-20 Sathanas juggernauts with a supernova has a repair facility for fighters?

they couldn't jump out. those artifical jump nodes created right before a supernova are unpredictable.

According to Awakenings (a quite good FS1 campaign), Project Genesis was a successful attempt to reclaim some of the lost landmass. They couldnt get more than about 20% though, because so much of the surface was remolecularized by the intense energy from the SSL and there wasn't nearly enough fertile land (even by Vasudan standards) or water, to do any more.

officially, there is no mention.

Either that or the age-old comm node destruction theory...
