I have recently come into following conclusion: WH40K universe is just so much better than Starcraft's ripoff version. And Starcraft is no longer the best RTS I've played.

I am GW's *****.

I could like 40K a lot more if not for the North Korean-esque-ness of the Imperium.

IMO, if they really want a faction that's interesting to play as "the best hope for humanity" they'd do better to emulate Rifts' Coalition States. They're still arseholes, but they're likeable enough to stand, and they really come across as being the best hope, instead of holding humanity back.

I really don't understand the "wow" factor behind Starcraft...all it was to me was the basic formula for resource/mass build or resource/early game rush.
Westwood did that at least a few years before, and I don't even like Westwood.

The best strat games are definately Homeworld, Ground Control (possibly), and DoW for me...much more exciting/unique than Starcrap/...I can't think of anything for Command and Conquer. Someone help me out?

StarCraft just did the basic RTS things in a very cohesive and well thought out way with enough unit diversity to make it interesting.  The trouble and good thing with WestWoods RTS games were the fairly typical tanks would attack more fairly typical tanks in a rock em sock em sort of way.  I LOVE that...but StarCraft had its own appeal that makes it I think a little more universal.

For C&C...it was the original Red Alert...that was THE classic C&C game.  Everything else since lives in its shadow.

What Ice said. I think SC pitted some fairly different forces against each other in a convincingly balanced fashion; I've seen Protoss turtle-style players and Zerg rushes constantly vying for control and always coming up with a different match. I guess that's why people kept playing it on Battle.net. Also, the story was fun. That's what I'm hanging out for in SC2. :D

Pretty much what the last two said, plus the fact that Starcraft was really the first RTS where units never became outclassed.

Terran Marines still had uses in the end game. Now this is pretty common, but before then there wasn't a reason to keep tier one units later on...

And the spellcasters.

The High Templar w/ psi storm, the Dark Archon w/ mind control are the sh1t.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Starcraft was overall good but I didn't think it was anything really extraordinary. TA came out at around the same time and was a much more impressive game in my opinion.

I thought the original C&C was much better, at least as a single player game. Although RA's skirmish mode gave it a lot more replayability. I still play skirmishes with my old mod fairly often:

He did a mistake on the placing of the bunker and the barracks. the bunker should be in between the CC and the barracks with the barracks in front of it.
