Just curious as to why I can't view the cinematics in SCP, even when I have the CDs? Is it possible in the next build that you guys could extract the cinematics from the game and make a VP file of them so that you can still watch them when you're playing through the game? At the very least I would like to go to the Tech Room and watch them, but that doesn't work either. I especially miss the opening introduction cinematic... that was just badass.

I know this game is supposed to be high-end and whatnot, but I am still experiencing short, but major slowdowns here and there... even after I've disabled 32-bit textures, and a few other things, including preloading game sounds. Something that you guys put in the game is really eating up memory that shouldn't be. I have a decent computer with 1 GB of RAM and should not be having these random slowdowns.

Oh, and when is the next release if anyone knows? It would be sweet if you include that new high-poly lucifer! :)

The problem with making a VP is that the current code only works so long as the AVI files are separate files. They should be downloadable somewhere in the Gen. Freespace forum.

Do make sure that you're not using the -pcx32 command line paramater, and if you could post system stats, command lines, and which version/which mediaVPs that you're using it would be helpful. :nod:

Actually if you've got 3.6.7 mv_effects, you may be able to reduce the slowdowns by grabbing the mv_befix file from the SCP site's "Downloads" section. :)

The 3.6.8 betas have the high-poly lucifer but you will need the latest CVS build from the recent builds forum.

Why, is because it's an interplay copyrighte format and we on't have the rights to it. So no making players for them.

OK so I took the time to read around a bit and I can't seem to find any places that have not broken links to the AVI format of the cinematics so that I can see them. Can anyone help me find the AVI format of the cinematics?

Also, FRED2 won't work, and I think someone said something about there being a FRED2_Open for SCP? Where do I get that or rather how do I access it?

Check the Cutscenes section of my FAQ for info on how to convert the cutscenes on the CDs into avi versions.

For your slowdowns try turning off mipmapping if it's on. I had the exact same problem till I turned it off.

As for FRED, 3.6.7 didn't ship with a version of FRED. You can grab a version from the CVS builds thread in recent builds but the first version is much newer than 3.6.7 so it will contain some commands that don't work unless you also upgrade to a CVS (beta) version of FS2_Open too.

So then in the next version will the CVS build automatically be updated when we download it? And since you guys can't use the MVE format of the videos, then someone should just make a VP file of the cinematics in AVI format already done. That way it saves all of us the time in trying to figure out how to convert them to AVI so that they're playable. Also, once I'm done converting, how do I make them playable in-game? Do I just place them in the FreeSpace 2 folder or where specifically?

Not quite sure what you mean by the first sentence. What I was warning about is that a mission made in a CVS build of FRED may or may not work in FS2_Open 3.6.7. It depends on what features you used. If you use something that was only added a week ago then obviously 3.6.7 won't have the faintest clue what it is and will probably crash out.

As for the avi movies. You can stick them in your main FS2 folder. There is a set of avi movies available for download but unfortunately the site seems to be giving me dead links at the moment. I'm dealing with that as we speak.

What I meant by the first sentence was that in the next release (3.6.8), will my CVS build update so that it's compatible with the new editor features?

Also, can you please inform me when the dead links are fixed, whether it be my PM or just replying to this topic?

I had a chat with DW-Hunter who's hosting the avi cutscenes and they'll be down a little while.

As for the first bit FSO is usually backwards compatible with earlier versions so a mission made in a current CVS build should work in any future build of FS2_Open.
