Re: Pat Robertson hits a new low.
Well, just so you don't think all Christians are nut-jobs, I want to say that in every prayer meeting and church service I've been to in the last week, the only thing related to Sharon that has been brought up is prayer for his salvation. Now, whether you agree with the Christian concept of salvation or not, to a Christian, it's a very good thing, it's something we pray for our extended families and such; praying that for Sharon shows the level of maturity of the body of Christ here, and I'm "proud" of them for it. :)

I don't believe all *anything* are nutjobs.......

Except the "Church of God=The Church of God". They'ge got that one down pretty tight, logic-wise.

also, Israel *****-slapped Pat Robertson for the Sharon remark...to the tune of 50 million dollars!

I'm sorry Sandwich, but I agree that Pat is a moron. I have no more respect for him than I do for Benny Hinn, or the Pope.

Whether or not Sharon's sin cause this, Pat had nad no reason to say that his sin caused his stroke. It kind of brings to mind what Job's friends said to him after he lost his family and goods. Could God be trying to wake him up? Sure, however that is not our place to judge.

Why are you comparing Pat Robertson to Benny Hinn?  Pat Robertson is as overzealously Christian as they get, while Benny Hinn is a liar and a thief.  I don't think it's appropriate at all to compare an extremist to a fraud.

Pat asks for money just as Hinn does. And it wouldn't surprise me any if Pat isn't a Christian ether.

And also, if you would notice, I wasn't comparing them, just saying I have no respect for ether of them.

Well, well.

Hence why Robertson has 'apologised' to the Sharon family.  So not only is he a fundamentalist nutbar, he's one whose convictions (loathsome as they are) crumble in the face of losing money.

Re: Pat Robertson hits a new low.
Can someone get the full text of Pat's controversial remarks? I heard something interesting about them, but I gotta get to bed and can't look for it now (it's almost 6am.... before a night's sleep!).

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Re: Pat Robertson hits a new low.
Yeah, I don't think he ever actually said that God was punishing Sharon, as such.

uhm, one second....

"The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, 'divide my land.' God considers this land to be his.

"You read the Bible, he says, 'This is my land.' And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he's going carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No. This is mine.'"

That's probably not the full text, but it does give him a tiny bit of leaway (or however you spell it). Though considring this statement was made while Sharon was in the hospital, it's not particularly ambigous as to what exactly he meant.

Re: Pat Robertson hits a new low.
No, but my point is this: he was reading from the Bible (Joel). Seems like people that have a problem with him saying plainly what the Bible has written plainly merely have a problem with the Bible. They just pick on Pat as a scapegoat.

He was drawing an insinuation that someone was dying as the result of punishment by God.  I think you said you agreed with that insinuation earlier (and prosumably his interpretation then), so I'm not surprised you don't see the reason for the outrage; but I'd imagine any family being told their loved one dying (or suffering serious illness) was punishment by God (and thus 'deserved') would be more than a mite upset.

Re: Pat Robertson hits a new low.
Like I said, I want to see the transcript or something. I spoke to a friend of ours who came over for dinner Friday, who had just flown in from the US. He saw Pat say what he said, and he said that Pat wasn't nearly as "offensive" as the media has blown it up to be.
