Re: Firefly pulling a Family Guy?
Pull up a chair, children.

In previous interviews, Joss has said that, should Firefly and/or Serenity return, so will Wash & Book, but "not in a silly, 'long lost twin' kind of way" (his words). Moreover, while a massive selling of the Serenity DVDs might be enough to ressurrect the idea, it is highly doubtful that Firefly will return. 'Why?' You ask? Simple; FOX. They still hold the rights to the series and it is entirely up to them to bring it back. Given the run they gave it when it first aired, most soundly believe that FOX wouldn't even bother bringing it back.

Thus, as stated in a few Whedon interviews, the Firefly crew will likely return in the form of movies, most likely straight-to-DVD, which is fast becoming a lucrative industry (especially for Universal) with rising movie-costs and falling Hollywood quality.

So, while the series returning may be a very shiny prospect, there is a general consensus of level-headed browncoats that it just won't happen... but hey, we can still hope the FOX executives get hit by falling space debris, can't we?

@Ford Perfect; Book died when his small refuge was attacked by the Alliance, more accurately a group of Alliance troops under the command of the Operative. His corpse was then, unceremoniously strapped onto the front of Serenity.

Spoiler:
He died when the Serenity returned to it's little colony planet and found it in ruins, remember? It was right before they went through Reaper Space.

Wish I could ban certain people from posting in certain topics.

Anyway, I can't imagine how they'd manage w/o Book and Wash...

Come now, just because they're filthy and illiterate should be no reason to discriminate against them. Some of history's greatest people managed quite well without either a book or a wash. Think of Genghis Khan for one.

* nuclear1 has SMIT'D Rictor for the above pun

Spoiler:
If you look in the Outtakes section of the Serenity DVD, you'll notice that Nathan Fillion (Mal) orders Book tied front and center because "he's our friend, it's an honor". He also tells Kaylee to tie a little "hood ornament" to the ship. :D
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Re: Firefly pulling a Family Guy?
God I love that outtake.

Seriously, if Firefly were to return, it's in a perfect position to do so. The ship has been fixed up; and even though River seemed to be doing better in the movie, that doesn't exclude the possibility of future flashbacks or other plotlines involving the Alliance trying to cover up something that River might know.

So the series is in a perfect position to start again, with new characters and problems, rather than having to explain a lot of that stuff to new viewers. (Hopefully the next incarnation will have Badger. :D Although that's probably wistful thinking.)

Also, theres plenty of room for episdes before the movie but after the series as it stands. Alot of things that werent there before suddenly popped up.

All that, amounting to approximately 8 months, is covered in the comic-book series and novelisation.

Re: Firefly pulling a Family Guy?
I lost interest in comic books when I was about 12, and I can't switch over to books after I've gotten attached to the characters on screen. Additionally, that show contains too many beautiful women for it not to be on television. It's a crime, in fact.

One thing that was never explained was "Two by two, hands of blue"... ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Re: Firefly pulling a Family Guy?
What happened to the two blue-hand guys was explained in the comics (Or so I hear).

That seems to be about all everybody wanted to know after Serenity. Apparently two men with an undisclosed relationship and wearing dishwashing gloves can achieve a massive fan following.
