Thought someone here might know about this...

What exactly is the difference between a personal account and a premier account? The Paypal site says that personal accounts cannot receive cash payments, but I don't get what this is supposed to mean, as you can't exactly send hard cash through it. The premier accounts on the other hand are charged a percentage fee on each payment received, but don't have this restriction. I can turn my personal account into a premier account for free, but I'm not sure if being able to get "cash payments" is worth the fees.

I basically want to set this up so I can collect payments for some items I'm going to list on ebay.

mostly you attach a bank account to it and it sends it electronically to there.  credit card's more for verification.

yeah, basically what he said. It works more or less the same way as a wire transfer. Although you can have them send you checks instead if you want.

Premeir accounts allow for larger montlhy transfers and I beleive you can accept direct Credit Card Payments.  Also there may be something about earning interest not to sure about that though.

Well on eBay, eBay itself handles the Credit Card payments.  Say if you had your own site you would need a premier account to be capable of accepting Credit Card payments.

Since your using eBay, don't get a premier account unless you're transferring over $500 a month.

The way my PayPal has worked is that with my account, I get a specific OCR number which I use to make payments from my bank/post office - enter the OCR and pay into the Swedish account that PayPal has with one of the banks.

The OCR and name are read, and money is deposited into the PayPal account, after which I can use other people's emails that they have registered with PayPal to pay them **** (just enter their e-mail that they give me).

If I want hard cash, I need to tie my own bank account with the paypal account, and once that is done, I can tell paypal to pay in the sum on the paypal account to the bank account (naturally they have a whole set of laws and regulations to **** you up the ass on that one and keep the money to themselves, so the safest thing if you want money, is to tie a credit card to your paypal account and get your money that way)

Premium Accts are as far as I know - if you tie the credit card. The perks are listed on their site, usually the limit for sending and recieving money widening. My limit without the CC is 570 dollars or some **** like that, and it decreases or increases as time passes (never really paid that much attention to it anyway, most I ever paid was 20 bucks on intervals).

okay, from what I can tell on the Paypal website it seems that my current personal account will work fine in most cases, but if I need to upgrade to a premier account I can do that without causing the buyer any hassles. Thanks for the information everyone.

The ebay and Paypal help sections say that you have to be "willing to upgrade" the account if someone sends you a credit payment, so I assume they allow you to do it when accepting the payment. I might do it in advance anyway though to get the seller protection benefits, but I'm not quite sure what those are useful for since the buyer has to pay me before I send out the item.

There are a couple of zero feedback bidders in my auctions that I haven't heard from, even though I stated in the descriptions that they need to contact me before bidding. (wanted to avoid shill bidder bots and the like) I'm probably going to just let it slide; is that the best idea? And one guy has sent me a question asking me the reserve price, which I'm not sure if I should bother answering. I might do it just to attract him to the auction, as I may have set the reserve on that one a bit too high.

I am surprised people are ready to pay so much for that old Athlon XP processor with still five days to go, but whatever, I'm not complaining.

Rather an understatement. ebay is where I get most of my stuff. I used to add in the item title in the comments for future reference, but stopped doing that at some point a few years ago out of laziness.

Well, my auctions all ended. I can't believe that XP 3200 sold for $180 (I got it for $200 almost two years ago) and the 6800 GT sold for $320 (you can get the way faster 7800 GTs for $270 these days). Insane. But I already got the payments for them as well as the other things. The five items fetched about $720 combined, which is much more than I was expecting.

Anyway, some of the buyers have unconfirmed addresses as shown on Paypal. This won't cause any problems, would it? They all have good ebay feedback scores (with the exception of one guy, who has zero feedback) and sent the payments quickly. I had to upgrade to a premier account to accept the money so there was a 3% fee on everything, but it was done easily enough.
