I wonder how many other companies are hiding rootkits.....
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Yeah. It looks like in this case unlike the Sony one they thought they were acting in their clients best interest but making a hidden folder that nothing else can find is in no ones best interest.
Karajorma's Freespace FAQ. It's almost like asking me yourself.

I can forgive them more easily than Sony. Sounds like they wanted to make sure people didn't screw up their stuff by mistake.

Sony...well, we all know about Sony by now.

Well it seems more like a technical ****up in their attempt to offer a better product to their customers, rather than forcibly installing something that serves only their own purposes as in Sony's case.

This makes me glad I stopped using Symantec stuff though, NOD32 is about as comprehensive and bloat-free as you can get in an anti-malware package these days.
