Where do I get FRED2 SCP?!
OK I'm really getting sick of this. I've been looking all over for a working version of FRED2 for SCP and the only one I could find was on the SCP website which was version 3.6.5... not only is that outdated because the version of SCP that I have is 3.6.7, but it also freezes every time I tried to boot it up. So, enough of the BS, can someone just give me a direct link to a WORKING version of FRED2 for SCP, and don't say "check out this thread", give me a LINK only. I don't know where to find all these threads that you guys talk about and the search box doesn't work.

I'm not going to give you a direct link cause that will just mean you have the same problem next time. It's a whole "give a man a fish... " thing :)

For some reason 3.6.7 didn't ship with an official version of FRED. IIRC it wasn't ready at the time. What you need to do is get one of the Beta builds. Despite the name SCP betas are often more stable than the official releases.

See the recent builds forum which is a sub forum of this one? That's where the coders post their beta builds. What you want to do is check out the CVS builds thread from Recent Builds. A new build is posted there every few days so you'll be getting the most up to date version of FRED.
 The first post of the thread has all the new versions. You want either the standard version (although if you have a P4 or AMD Athlon you can use the optimised version). Make sure you also download the equivalent version of FS2_Open as there are some new features in the most recent version of FRED that won't work in 3.6.7.

OK I downloaded FRED2 from the latest CVS builds and created a map, but then when I tried to run the map, the game would crash and exit. So then I went and downloaded the latest CVS version of FS2 Open itself, and it works, but now my sound is all screwed up and at the start of the mission I hear these loud "KRRRRK..... KRRRRRK.... KRRRRK" sounds. They go away after a little while but then the rest of the sound in the game is a lot quieter and messed up... I have to turn my speakers up real loud to hear anything and even then some sounds are way too quiet when they shouldn't be in comparison to the loudness of others... Do I need to update my sound card or is there a way to utilize the sound like the old 3.6.7 build ran it? Did the latest CVS build change something perhaps in the sounds.tbl if that has anything to do with it? I can't stand this it's pissing me off. I just want to play my damn map. :ick:

EDIT: Oh, and I also have these stupid error messages that pop up every time I try to use the latest CVS build too. They say something like "Unrecognized command line error -rlm and -d3dmipmap" WTF? How do I fix it so it stops saying that without having to disable any options that would lower the graphical quality of the game?

Disable those options then. They've been folded back into the engine and turned on by default (or had their name changed) If need be select 3.6.7, deselect them there and then go back to the CVS build :)

As for the audio problems look at the bottom of the first post on the CVS Builds thread. I suspect your problem is due to a lack of correct OpenAL drivers. If the ones there don't work try using the ones from openal.org itself.

Thank you karajorma you've been a lot of help to me lately.

And just to clerify, so when you say "folded back into the engine" do you mean that they've been permanently integrated into the game so that even if I disable the command lines, they still work?

Basically yes. If there is no reason not to use a feature it will get folded back in the engine or otherwise in 3-4 years from now you'll have to tun on hundreds of switches :)
